Monroe, WA – July 18, 2014 – Conrad Grunewald driver of the No. 77 Megan Racing/Top 1 Oil Chevrolet Camaro put on a great performance last month at Round 4: The Gauntlet in Wall, New Jersey. Fans watched in awe as Grunewald battled on the challenging track and had an impressive run to the Great 8 round of competition, until contact with Chris Forsberg resulted in defeat.
Grunewald is more than ready to take to the track in Monroe, Washington and closed off the day Thursday with a successful session of testing. “I’m looking forward to competing this weekend and the car is ready to go and running great,” said Grunewald. “We should be set up for a competitive weekend here at Evergreen Speedway.”
Round 5: The Gauntlet is set to take place July 18 and 19 at Evergreen Speedway, and is sure to be an action-packed event. This is a historic track in that it is the oldest track on the circuit and is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. The track was originally built as a horseracing track. It is located within the confines of the Evergreen State Fairgrounds and is a short distance from Seattle.
The track’s stadium can accommodate up to 7,500 fans in the covered grandstand, and also an added 5,000 fans in the uncovered grandstands. Evergreen Speedway has a unique layout that features a nationally renowned figure-eight track. NASCAR’s David Pearson has even dubbed it the “Super Speedway of the West.” Before California and Nevada built their super speedways, the track played host to several NASCAR 500 lap events. Evergreen Speedway is now home to the NASCAR Whelen All American Series, the K&N Pro Series West and Evergreen DRIFT.
This Throwdown is sure to live up to its name and could be turning point for the season. “I hope the fans in Seattle are ready for a great event,” said Grunewald. “These are some of the best drift fans in the country. I always enjoy coming to this track- the fans make drifting that much more rewarding!”
