The British Drift Championship visited Anglesey Circuit for the first time ever on the weekend of 20th-21st September. This would give everyone an equal chance of a good result, Shane O’Sullivan wouldnt have to worry as he had already won the Super-Pro Championship.
The demanding layout would test the drivers skill as they would initiate into a fast right hand bend with two rear clips before transitioning near the pit wall and slowing into a left hairpin with an inside clip, they would then let the car run out to an outside clip before crossing the finish line.
The layout was fairly unforgiving as the grass and dirt was always ready to take off a bumper or two, a few drivers managed to have a spin on the exit of turn 1 and clip the pit wall. The majority of drivers clipped the grass over the weekend giving us some huge dirt drops.
Saturday gave the drivers the usual practice session follows with qualifying in the afternoon. Jack Symes would take 1st place in Semi-Pro qualifying, Dan Hall took 1st in Pro and Shane O’Sullivan in Super-Pro.
Sunday and it was time for the battles, the drivers would have to bring their ‘A’ game today as it was their last chance to improve their championship position.
The Semi-Pro class would be first out onto track, Callum Craddy and Mathew Denham were both on a charge before meeting each other in the Final.
Mathew Denham would emerge victorious, although both drivers were more than happy to get onto the podium. Its good to see some different drivers on the podium and it shows just how competitive the Semi-Pro class has been this year.
Next up was the Pro class, with the championship wide open it would create some exciting battles. Olly Silcock and Dan Firmager were taken out of contention early, Richard Grindrod would go on to win the event and take the Pro Championship.
The Super-Pro class would be last onto track and they put on a great show, Richard Grindrod managed to score third place on the podium, Jack Shanahan took second and Matt Carter would stand on the top step.
The season finished on an awesome weekend, even the weather stayed dry for a change. If you would like to find out the season result then they are availble on the BDC website –
