BALTIMORE, Md. (June 21, 2011) – Vaughn Gittin Jr. came out to Round Four of Formula Drift at Wall Speedway this past weekend ready to rock and looking to gain some crucial Championship points. After the tire smoke had settled on this exciting East Coast track, Vaughn would finish the event in 5th place, accomplishing his goal of moving up in points overall.
Vaughn put down a near-perfect second run in the Monster Energy Falken Tire Ford Mustang during the qualifying rounds, landing him in the 2nd place spot in the top thirty-two. Watch the VIDEO of his run. Vaughn went on to defeat Jim Guthrie in the top 32, and was excited to move into the top 16 main competition after a quick half-time break.
Vaughn spent half-time hanging out in the pits signing autographs, chatting with fans, throwing out Exedy Clutch swag, and posing for pictures next to the Monster Energy Falken Tire Ford Mustang. A Mustang RTR convertible was showcased at the Falken Tire booth and Vaughn’s Team Need for Speed Mustang RTR-X was quite the jaw-dropper over at the Need for Speed Electro Lounge.
Back on the track, Vaughn was geared up to battle his Falken Tire/Autosport Dynamics teammate Darren McNamara. Vaughn would lead first, while McNamara pushed to keep up with the Mustang, but ran a more shallow line and corrected before transitioning into the second part of the figure eight. When following, Vaughn did an excellent job of staying on McNamara all through the bank and infield, and was a perfect shadow to his competitor’s line, while putting down massive angle. The judges deemed Vaughn the winner of the battle. Watch the VIDEO.
Vaughn was faced with another Falken Tire/Autosport Dynamics teammate in the Great Eight, Justin Pawlak in the teal and blue Falken Tire Mustang. Vaughn led first, high on the bank and tapping the wall, while blasting through the course putting down an awesome run. Watch the VIDEO. When giving chase, Vaughn followed Pawlak right in to the initiation and stayed super high on the bank, once more tapping the wall. Vaughn pushed to stay with his competitor throughout the course, but the advantage was given to Pawlak. Watch the VIDEO.
Vaughn finished Round Four in 5th place, and would move up one spot in the Formula Drift standings to 9th place overall.
“Formula Drift in New Jersey is an event I always look forward to – I had over 100 friends and family attending and the sell-out crowd was electric!” says Vaughn Gittin Jr. “I have no regrets from behind the wheel; I drove my Monster Energy Falken Tire Ford Mustang aggressive and flawless, and the ASD crew did an incredible job as always. Unfortunately JTP had a bit more than us once again this weekend and he was able to pull away when he was leading me through the course clinching the victory. I’m really pumped for Justin and his success this year, and I look forward to our next battle.”
