Going to sleep Thursday night I don’t think anyone expected rain. I’m sure most people woke up Friday morning to a wet and rainy surprise, but by the time I got to the track it finally stopped raining. Most people took it easy except Daigo Saito, he went all out as usual.
The track layout was a little different this year. With more room to come off the evergreen 5/8ths bank and a different clipping points down the power alley which was really
the main reason for having more room off the bank.
Practice was much need for Michael Essa and Matt Powers. They missed Thursday’s practice day due to an unfortunate car accident their truck was in, thank fully the cars were alright as were the drivers. When practice came they took as many runs as they could.
Once qualifying started everyone was throwing down. Seemed like drivers were going to qualify or crash. Lots of drivers scrubbed the power alley wall during their qualifying runs.
Daigo Saito didn’t qualify as well as most people would have thought, but after coming off the bank and scrubbing lots of speed he was lucky he didn’t drop 2 tires getting him a zero as seen below where he dropped 4 tires during one of his qualifying runs.
Even though Michael Essa and Matt Powers only got practice during qualifying day they still qualified well. Essa qualified 16th and Powers qualified 9th.
The local boy Walker Wilkerson qualified 8th.
When the dust finally settled, Vaughn Gittin Jr, threw down a great run and qualified 1st with a 91.
good job on the post Chris
