So as you all know, the finals are over and the photos are still coming in. Here’s the Friday Qualifying gallery from the Formula Drift Finals at Toyota Speedway. Pictured above is the NuFormz Dodge Viper with a very nice wrap that remembered the team’s fallen owner, Shaun Carlson. Like I said once before. You will be greatly missed in this world. NuFormz Owner Shaun Carlson Passes Away
It is with the saddest of news that we inform you all of the passing of Shaun Carlson of Nuformz Racing. Shaun was a friend that I got the chance to meet 3 years ago and managed to talk to every so often. He was a swell guy, friendly and very open. We were informed that he passed away last night in his home in Long Beach.
We were aware that he had been away from the shop for a bit and had been diagnosed with having a genetic condition that caused him to have a problem with the electrical system of his heart and had a pacemaker installed to help regulate this (Original Story). We don’t know if this was the ultimate cause of Shaun’s passing but he will be greatly missed by his team, Sam Hubinette, the import drag scene, the drift scene and by myself. My prayers go out to his family and all his friends.
For those that didn’t know Shaun was in the drag scene, theres a small video below the jump that shows you what he and Steph Papadakis accomplished in 1999, building the first 9second FWD Drag car. Once again, our prayers and heart felt condolences go out to his family and all that will miss him.

(May 9, 2009) – Mopar® NuFormz Dodge Viper SRT10® Formula Drift (FD) driver Samuel Hübinette suffered an earlier-than-desired exit today in the Round Two: Proving Ground FD event at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga. Hübinette earned one round win before losing to eventual event winner Chris Forsberg in the Top 16 round of tandem eliminations.

Mend after Health Scare
Shaun Carlson, owner of Team Mopar® Formula Drift star Samuel Hubinette’s Mopar Drift Dodge Challenger, is recuperating nicely at home after suffering a series of three heart attacks over the last month. The attacks have been diagnosed as Brugada Syndrome, a genetic disease characterized by an abnormality in the heart’s electrical system that can cause potentially fatal arrhythmias.

Sam Hubinette tests out a Shelby Mustang and the NuFormz Dodge Challenger in a video that was posted off his blog. He does some horsing aorund with both cars and takes the Challenger drifting around some of the turns at Willow Springs Raceway. As well he does a full Drag/Lap test in both cars.
