Official Cancellation of 2008 D1 Grand Prix Wolrd Finals
In what we got as an official word via a phone call with D1 themselves. They have officially canceled the slated November event of “D1 Grand Prix All Star World Championship 2008”. Citing that Formula Drift’s “Red Bull Drifting World Championship”(This was previously announced at SEMA of 2008 with hard set dates.) event that is slated to happen a week prior to their “World Championship” would cause a lack of attendance for their event. We are aware that Formula Drift is inviting D1’s best drivers to participate in the event and that Formula Drift has been in talks with D1GP about the event.
On the D1 Grand Prix side of things. D1 Grand Prix will instead look forward and begin to setup their 2009 series in the interim. This was their plan that we have seen for 2007 and yet still cancelled their events for 2008. What will become of the D1GP US Series? Only time will tell, and with the new management over at D1. We guess that this could only be in a positive matter. We will have to wait and see what exactly the future holds for the US version of the D1 series.
