Boss Motorsport: Steve Moore’s British Drift Championship Round 6 Review

The final round of the British Drift Championship was held at Anglesey Circuit/Trac Mon with the stunning Welsh scenery as a backdrop.

The track layout was going to be a tough one for the grand finale. Starting with a high speed entry that opened out to a long straight, past the pit wall then slam on the brakes to bleed off the speed, for a very tight hair pin back before the finish line. The weather looking favorable so the scene was set for a great final to the end the season.

Morning practice didn’t get off to a good start, after a piece of the exhaust manifold split away, my SR20 lost all power just after completing 5 laps of the very challenging Anglesey course.

We got straight to work on the car and within a hour we had the turbo and manifold stripped off the SR20. A massive thanks to Wesley Keating from WKD Imports for letting me barrow his welder to weld up the massive hole that had appeared in my manifold. Unfortunately we just missed the final practice session to test the repair, but awesome work from the Boss Motorsport team to get the car back out there in a very short time period.

Next up was qualifying and with very few laps done in the morning practice I decided to just go for it and gave it my all. When the qualifying results were called out I was ecstatic with a 10th place after a very tough morning.

Game day. I would face Irishman Gary Dunne for the top 32 battles. I would take the lead run and I gained a slight advantage on Gary as he had a slight straighten behind me.

On the chase run I was pumped, maybe…. a little to pumped as on the chase I got a bit too close to him and to avoid contact I half spun, handing him the win.

So the 2014 British Drift Championship has finally come to end and what a journey it has been. I can’t wait for the upcoming season, with a lot of big plans to be announced soon.
