J Woo:
The buzzer for the alarm hits and I am out of bed hyper and ready to go. Even if I was up until 3AM playing Call of Duty 4. First check window for rain. NO! About time! A few hours later the gates are opening and I already got my car on the course a few times to get my licks in incase some random act of god makes rain. Project A. Spec’s SPEEDRIFT season ended as a great open day just to drift. It was very interesting as a lot of new drivers showed up at the gates for the first time in over a year. The basic course was a great way for new drivers to learn. A few of us were instructing. Others waiting for the 3rd gear course to open up for now they were tapping there cars up on the wall and showing the excitement of a clear day. At the same time we planed a 1/8 street drag race. In the pits an army of EVO’s showed up, one a AMS supported car. Another looked like it should run in GT500. You should have seen the faces on the Subie guys! Priceless. Oh and the one random guy who entered his Daewoo. After the drags Project A. Spec Drift Team did a demo with Tandem runs and all the other things you see at demos. Then 3rd gear opened up for a while for advanced drivers. Then Ryan who took the photos showed up. Here is his story…
Ryan:
Welcome back to Autocity Speedway for the last speedrift event of the year. Once again Project A. Spec was in attendance as well as many other Nissan 240’s and a couple Corollas. I can’t forget to mention that there was also a fc rx7 and even an old Chevy Malibu. Seeing how much smoke the Malibu was giving off was quite a sight and smell for that matter.
Everyone who drove had a fun completely destroying the track as well as their tires. Most of the guys smoked their tires to the point where they almost weren’t able to drive home because of their tread. Not to worry though, because a lot of the drivers who attended brought out extra sets of tires for maximum track time. There were no complaints from the spectators either as cars lined up to drift one right after the other.
This time around the weather was great, compared to the pervious rained out events this year. The weather, tandem demos, drag races, and overall drifting made this speedrift event another success. What a great way to end the year!
