We found a cool BMW E30 as we were walking around the Drift Outlaws seeded day the other week and knew we had to take a closer look.
The car doesn’t sound like a normal E30 due to it running the SR20DET from a Nissan S14, the engine is running the SR20 gearbox too with a custom prop shaft through to the BMW diff which is welded. The conversion was done using engine and gearbox mounts from Slide Motorsport, a name many of you will recognise if you follow our BDC coverage.
The engine isn’t overly modified so don’t expect big power numbers from this setup, its running a front mount intercooler which required some custom pipes to fit. The exhaust system also needed some custom work in order for the engine conversion to happen.
A JRPerformance alloy radiator keeps the whole setup running at the correct temperature thanks to twin fans. The fuel system has also received some attention with choice upgrades including a Walbro pump and stainless braided hoses.
The suspension has been swapped for a set of MTS-Technik coilovers with camber adjustable top plates, this adds the freedom of setting up the car to any changes in the track or further upgrades in the future.
The exterior of the car is fairly standard, its been painted in Lexus Starfire White Pearlescent with the Ford’s Candy Red in the engine bay.
It sits on a set of 15”XXR 002 that look great with red centres bringing a small, subtle amount of colour to the car.
The interior features a pair of Bride Low Max seats with black Takata harnesses. The anodised red hydro and steering wheel provide plenty of colour alongside the red cage. A set of gauges show the oil and coolant temperatures alongside the LD Performance boost controller and battery voltage indicator which have replaced the vents in the dash.
This car isn’t about big money, big power builds. It caught our eye because of the subtle modifications that make it something different but purposeful. We will leave you with some more photos of it from the shoot and the Drift Outlaws Seeded Day.
