Round 3 in Montmagny Set New Drift Mania Records!
Round 3 set the tone for the remainder of the 2008 season as Castrol DMCC records were broken at the Montmagny Autodrome. On what turned out to be a beautiful summer day, fans poured through the gates by the truckload. With the stadium filled to almost maximum capacity, with probably the most animated drifting fans in Quebec (if not Canada!); the drivers knew they had to put on a good show. Fortunately for all the spectators that day…they did!
The first notable achievement occurred during the qualification round when Fred Girard, from Team Hankook, scored 95.75 points…the highest score ever achieved in Castrol DMCC history. “Steady” Fred’s passion for drifting was definitely showcased that day considering that he decided to take part in the event, even though his girlfriend was on the verge of giving birth to their first child. Being a natural born-drifter, Freg Girard did not want to miss out on accumulating any potential points in order to win a second season title in a row.
However, Fred’s fame and glory was unfortunately short-lived, as his record was broken immediately after by Haig Kanadjian from Team General Tire. Haig beat his predecessor’s score with a total of 97.625 points in his Autoworkx powered Nissan 240sx. Haig’s stellar performance led him to first place on the podium at Round 3. With the highest score known to Castrol DMCC history; Haig definitely made a name for himself in the world of drift.
A new addition to take note of in the 2008 Castrol DMCC roster would be the veteran Matt Waldin, hailing from Import Intelligence in West Chester, PA. With the increasing numbers of drifters in eastern USA, many drivers are finding a new home just north of the border. By joining the Castrol DMCC series, the overall talent of this series is increasing exponentially at each round.
With Round 4 being just around the corner, the two-day Toronto event is sure to be explosive. Toronto is already buzzing with Drift Mania fever, and is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the best drifters in the nation. Since Round 3, the stakes have been raised to a new level. Can they keep it up all season? Stay-tuned to find out! And always remember, life is so much better sideways.
