For Immediate Release
January 5, 2010 (Indianapolis, Indiana) – Organizers from the various grassroots drift organizations met today to discuss plans they have in store for drifting enthusiasts this season.
“We are happy to report the formation of the Midwest Drift Union!” announced Michael Bailey of Zerolift Autolab/Street Life Tour.
“The organization is to bring the entire Midwest together. By uniting the region under one banner we are eliminating the state factions, the negativity, and bringing a positive environment to the Midwest as a whole.” explained founder Edgar Sarmiento of Drift Indy. “Community is about a sense of belonging, camaraderie, respect, and a mutual goal that everyone works towards achieving. It is our goal to host events, gatherings, help to develop drivers, and to build that camaraderie within the community.”
The Midwest Drift Union is planning on hosting a variety of events for the 2010 Season. The events are scheduled to be intense practice sessions followed by a main competition. The competitions will have a Top 16 points system, and will be scored by 3 officials. At the end of the season the accumulated points will be tallied and the Midwest Drift Union Champion will be named for the year.
The organization plans on holding events in: Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kentucky and Ohio. The number of events in this circuit will soon be determined along with the full schedule for the season.
