From the start I could tell this was going to be an awesome event, everything was so calm and easy going, some mental machinery to check out from the European regular drivers with the trend for BMW M power.
First practice came and the team were all wondering how we would compare to the big horsepower cars that we were going up against.
I was surprised how relaxed I felt in the company of the top European drivers and went out nailing the track straight from the off, I could tell the car was feeling better and better every run I was laying down.
It was only after the first 3 or 4 runs I started noticing my clutch pedal was feeling tight and struggling to find 3rd gear! Well it got worse until I had no choice but to park up. Here we go again I thought after all the bad luck so far in the British Drift Championship. After a short discussion with the team it was decided out comes the gearbox to sort out the problem. The clutch had warped so it was a disc cutter modification and throw it back together to try get out in practice 2. We got it back together only to miss end of practice by seconds. So straight in to qualifying it was!
On first entering the track and spinning the wheels I thought yesss we are on, but that soon turned to nooo its fubbered when I entered the first corner I could tell it was slipping but that said it wasn’t the worst first run but the second it really let go on the last long run.
I was devastated that bad luck had knocked me out of a competition again when I feel like the car is handling and running better than ever.
That said what an event I hope we are able to enter KOE again sometime, either in the UK or one of their rounds abroad. Thanks to all of my team and close friends for trying to get me through, thanks to King Of Europe for a great event & to our sponsors for all of their help throughout the year. Now to look forward to a bit of luck with car and some good hard drifting. Roll on the next BDC event at Teesside 19th-20th July.
