I had long week leading up to this event, setting up car and checking everything over so left home nice and early Friday morning to get tent setup and get car through scrutineering before our drivers briefing.
Friday afternoon was our practice session. Unfortunately 2 of the 4 rear links broke as I came through turn 1, so I was out for the day. Gripfab loaded up my car and took it back to there place before fixing my car overnight by putting stronger links into it.
I had the car back on Saturday morning at 7am so I cant thank Gripfab enough for their help. During the morning practice session the car was feeling good.
I qualified 25th so I was up against Bernard Doyle in his R32 Skyline. Bernard is a up and coming driver and has been driving well all year so I knew I was in for a good battle.
Bernard was fast all day, I chased in first run and was on his door all the way through the run so when we swapped over and I was feeling confident for my lead run.
I came in as hard as the car would go and I won the battle, I was into the top 16.
Trevor Murphy was my next opponent, he was fighting for second place in the championship at the time so I knew I would have another hard fought battle.
Trevor had a better chase run and that was my weekend over, I was so happy with my car and how I drove all weekend. That’s another year done and dusted, I cant wait for 2015 drift season already in my new PS13. Japfest was a awesome event with some of the best drivers in the world and it was a great experience to be a part of it. The Irish are still undefeated on home soil!
Well done to David Egan and all the IDC crew for taking Irish drifting to the next level and to all my sponsors MG Crash Repairs, Driftkits.eu, Garvey Woodchip Supplies and EverythingDrift, I’d be lost without you all!
