The bank holiday weekend at the start of May always brings out a huge crowd for the BHP Performance Show at Lydden Hill.
This year was no different, the sun was shining and every inch of space at the circuit was filled with people and cars.
In the paddock there was a huge selection of trade stands and display cars, enough to look at when there wasnt something interesting on track, which wasnt often.
On the track was a mixture of public track sessions, race cars, rally cars & drifters. The public track sessions gave people a chance to take out there own car for a few laps around the UKs shortest road circuit at 1 mile. The track sessions contained a few stand out cars including a Mosler and this RS500.
One of the track sessions was booked by the guys at Retro Stance, this was not one to be missed as the track was packed with MK1 & MK2 Escorts, BMW E30s, a rallycross Fiesta and a MK1 Golf.
The race cars were just as interesting and varied. This Zakspeed Jagermeister Capri and Mobil 1 RS500 stood out enough that we spent some more time getting car features on them. The session was also filled with space frame cars normally raced on short ovals as well as a few time attack cars.
The rallycross cars put on a good show with 3 of the drivers making it look like a prize was on offer for whichever came first, swapping places on most corners. This grass track buggy often accelerated out of the corners with one or both front wheels in the air!
The crowds packed themselves tightly against the fence around the circuit to see the 8 drifters on track. A few practice sessions earlier in the day would provide the drivers with enough time to go wild and put on a show, often filling the natural bowl of the circuit with smoke.
Genetic Drifters, Adam Weeden and Ryan Pothecary took this opportunity to twin with each other getting closer and closer each lap.
When it came to the last session the drivers were given a challenge, go out on track and complete a judged lap any way they wanted, doughnuts, spins, anything! It was all about showmanship. The prize on the line was £1000 and a Rockwell watch. The 8 drivers competing for the prize were Ryan Pothecary…

Congratulations to all of the drivers and to all of the staff at the BHP Performance Show & Lydden Hill, another successful show, we look forward to next year. Until then enjoy the rest of these images.
