Its time to catch up with Flat Out Factory drivers Adam Mitchell and Frazer Jamieson as they compete in Round 3 of Driftcup at Teesside Autodrome.
Frazer Jamieson
Turning up at Teesside with Adam was great, its a track that I know well so I was able to give him some pointers about the setup. We headed out for a sighting lap due to the conditions but then it was straight into practice.
My first lap didnt go to plan, I misjudged the grip levels as I entered the first corner sliding off the track and hitting the wall. Luckily the only damage was the rear bumper, it was still in once piece but it didnt stay attached for long after that.
I lowered the tyre preassues hoping to gain some grip out on the track, it made a small difference but something didnt feel right with the car. I continued as normal as I couldnt see any issues when I looked around the car.
During my qualifying runs I was still struggling with the car, spinning on both runs and not getting a score would mean the end of my day.
Hopefully some changes to the setup will give me a good chance when we head to Driftland for Round 4.
Adam Mitchell
After all of the work done to the car since round 2, it arrived at round 3 untested. I unloaded it from the trailer and lined up on the grid with fingers, toes, arms, legs and everything I could crossed. When it came to my turn I put my foot to the floor aaaaaand… YES! Boost! It had worked.
First lap was damp and so slippy. I came back into the pits and dropped my tyre pressures. My team mate Frazer arrived back at the pits having slid into the tyre wall. I helped him get the car back together and we both went back out.
Throughout practice the conditions changed and the track dried out. However, I was still struggling to remain on the qualifying line.
It came to my qualifying runs, on my 1st run I tried to put in a ‘safe run’. However, I was too slow transitioning from clip 1 to clip 2 and this caused a straighten at clip 3 as I began to climb the hill.
My second run was very sketchy and filled with straightens and corrections. I had ran out of skill and unfortunately my day was over.
More seat time is on order before making the journey up to Driftland for round 4.
