We continue our series of articles following our drivers as they compete within DriftCup and try to earn their way into the British Drift Championship. This time the drivers headed to Driftland, Scotland for Round 4 of the championship.
Arron Stevens
Arron arrived at the track after a 13 hour drive to wet conditions, as he headed out for practice it was starting to dry making the grip levels unpredictable.
During qualifying it was raining again so he struggled with grip but managed to put in a good run qualifying in 21st position, not an ideal position but good enough to go through to the battles.
His first battle was against Dan Joyce, a more experienced driver, the aim was to stay close to him throughout the run. Dan straightened on his chase run and Arron went through to the Top 16.
The next battle was against Oliver Booth in the Wizards of Lock Skyline, he had been running well throughout the day and managed to take the battle, ending Arrons day.
Dean Newport-Hall
Dean took a chance this round and debuted a new car, its a big gamble part way through a season but it was great to see him on track in the new Scrape’N’Skid S15.
During the practice session a small issue needed fixing where the car was melting the oil return pipe for the turbo, this lost alot of time causing him to only have a couple of practice runs.
Qualifying came around and he had only managed a single complete lap of the track so far, it was looking like an up hill battle. Dean managed a good run on his first attempt giving him 20th place with a score of 70.
Dean would battle Shay Kavangh in the Top 32, unfortunatly he wouldnt go any further through the competition after Shay managed to pull a gap on his lead run.
The new car had a great start to its competition life in Deans hands, he should be better suited at the final round at Lydden Hill.
Andrzej Mania
Andrzej started out the day by taking it easy around the track getting used to the grip on the wet track.
His runs were improving everytime as his confidence improved in the layout and grip levels.
He put in some of his best runs during the qualifying session scoring 70.3 on his first run and getting 19th place.
He would battle Adam Mitchell during the Top 32 battles, unfortunatly it wasnt going to be an easy day as Adam Mitchell hit the side of Andrzrj’s car, damaging the suspension on the rear right.
Andrzej would go through to the Top 16 to battle Mark Illand but wouldnt be able to put in a strong run due to the damage, ending his day.
Scott Sargent
Scott managed to get some good runs during the practice session in the morning, getting used to the layout before increasing his speed and angle throughout the course.
When it was time for qualifying he went out and put in two runs scoring 61.3, good enough for 27th place, although after returning to the paddock he noticed one of his tyres was deflated.
He got the car ready for the battles and headed out onto track, he would be up against Alexis Drew. Alexis would advance through after pulling away on his lead run.
Scott will be back next year with a rebuilt car and some more improvements over the winter.
The final round of Driftcup was held at Lydden Hill, we will be bringing you the coverage of that soon!
