The guys from Team 1340 kicked off their season with a busy couple of weekends with Round 1 of Fueltopia Barrel Sprint, held at Santa Pod Raceway, Northamptonshire.
We arrived early as the teams were setting up to be greeted by a very wet track, this would mean slower times throughout the morning as the track dried but an opportunity to capture something different as the guys navigated the standing water.
Andy struggled in the morning practice sessions with very little grip from the rear tyres, this car was freshly built and hadn’t had an alignment so it would need some setting up for the tricky conditions.
There were plenty of changes over the morning including softening the rear suspension and lowering the tyre pressures to try to get some more grip.
His times were improving and with some coaching from Adam they fell further.
Adam was having a tough day himself as He felt the changes to the car in the off season had not improved the car, with it now having a lack of grip from the front tyres.
He managed some quick times on his runs to keep him in or around the top 5 times in the morning sessions.
He still maintained a good position as they headed into qualifying where they would both put down a good run to get through to the head to head battles.
Both drivers won their Top 16 battles to make it through into the Top 8 but wouldn’t make it further this time.
It was a successful start to the season for the team with both drivers learning a lot about their current setups and what changes to make for the future rounds.
