We had the opportunity to ask Charlie Ongsingco of the Drifting organization Just Drift some questions to get to know him better and allow you some of the drivers of the Top Drift series some insight to Charlie.
EverythingDrift: When did you first get into drifting and how did you find out about it?
Charlie Ongsingco: Initial D!!!!! Just kidding.. lol. I raced carts when I was a kid, and I would just toss it sideways all the time and laugh. I wasn’t going to win anyway; I was too heavy for karts. So I just messed around and
had fun with it. Then 10 years or so ago, I was watching drift vids with friends before going to the canyons and run. Few chassis later… we learned drifting. The hard way.
eDRIFT: When did your create the organization Just drift, and what made you decide to form this organization?
Charlie: Just Drift LLC was officially licensed on February 2002. Prior to that, it existed in the lonely dark off ramps of Southern California. I know it’s hard to learn how to drift and very expensive to learn on public roads. I talked to Willow Springs to allow drifting officially without getting yelled at by course workers. Since we already had an idea on
how to do it, might as well pass it on. I wanted to make sure the learning process was fun and people understand that it can be expensive and must be committed to it. Otherwise, you’re not going to learn it. You must have the heart for the sport for you to grow with it.
eDRIFT: What moment to date is you’re most favorite to date with Just Drift?
Charlie: You know, this is hard… every time I say “man, this is the best just drift event ever” then the following event, I feel the same way and say the same thing. So can I just fast forward and say… the next ASBXI is the best event ever? Ok if not, then ALL JUST DRIFT EVENTS ARE MY FAVORITE!
eDRIFT: And with Just Drift Being a Formula D Pro-Am series how does it feel to see past JD drivers out there competing with the big boys of FD, and who do you see as the next driver to make the leap to FD?
Charlie: I just shake my head and say… damn! They gonna be champs! lol…
eDRIFT: What car is your ultimate drift car if you can build anything you want? If built and had the funds would you yourself try to go pro and run in FD?
Charlie: I always like the looks of R32 GTR. So I’ll probably stick to that… but with VEE EIGHT! hahahah!
And I’ll probably go to a few rounds of FD just to mess around, nothing serious. I don’t think I can do all of it. I have a full time career that doesn’t involve drifting or cars.
eDRIFT: And finally where do you see Just Drift going in these next couple of years. And what does drifting truly mean to you?
Charlie: Just Drift is here to stay; we’re going to do the same thing we’re doing. Having a play ground for drifters, a breeding ground for future FD champs, a place for everyone to get together and play bump cars.
Drifting is part of my life, I have passed on a few job promotions, a free MBA at Pepperdine University, an all expenses paid vacation and who knows what else I’ve missed. So I’m sure it has to mean something. I like where the whole sport is going for the most part.
I just want to remind everyone that do your part to help this sport, regardless of which organization you support. Do it legally and not on the streets. Drifting is fun and don’t get burnt out over it. Enjoy and have fun with it. If you need to take a break, then take a break. Don’t get spent because you’re going to end up hating drifting.

And we wish Charlie and the entire Just Drift family a successful year and more to come, Keep it Sideways and fun guy’s.
