Clipping Points: 2012 Just Drift Top Drift Champion Luke Pakula

Posted on September 16, 2012 by Toxic

Today we are very happy to bring you and little Q&A session with 2012 Just Drift Top Drift Champion Luke Pakula.

Everything Drift: When did you first get into drifting and how did you find out about it? And what was your first Drift car?

Luke: I have been around a car scene since I was 15 (early 2000). So naturally I came across drifting once it first started catching people’s attention in the early 2004 on the streets of Chicago, where I grew up. In 2006 I moved out to California for a temporary get away. Shortly after the move I went to check out a local drift event, run by an organization called Just Drift.
Not even 2 weeks later after the event I went out and bought my first RWD car. 1989 Nissan 240sx hatchback, it was a bucket with only one intention in mind, drifting!

Throwback Thursday – 2007 Clipping Point: Hiro Sumida

Posted on May 31, 2012 by George

Everything Drift.com: What FIRST got you interested in drifting before you became a driver?
Hiro Sumida: I have been an avid fan of rallying, especially the World Rally Championship (WRC).  And I have been watching every single WRC rounds since 1993.  That’s where my original interest in drifting came from.  A little bit after that, I found the drifting article featuring  Drift King Tsuchiya and Max Orido in their AE86 and that’s when I really wanted to try drifting myself.  Still, my future dream is to compete at Rally de Corse.

2011 Clipping Point: Steffen Moy

Posted on August 16, 2011 by Toxic

EverythingDrift: When Did you First Get into Drifting . And how did you meet Fredric.

Steffen Moy: I have always been into drifting, or motorsports overall. About 10 years ago, I used to race a Honda Civic in road racing, and I have been a mechanic for a friend of me that did some rallying. I have always been into cars, mostly RWD, spending so many hours on snowy roads. As drifting became more popular in Norway, I have always been in the scene, ether as a mechanic, judge, etc., but never competed myself. But yeah, once upon a time I helped Fredric tow his drift car, a BMW back to Norway from a drift event in Sweden. We both had the same passion about the sport and I guess it just clicked. The weekend after that he was going to Finland for an event up there, which is a long drive from our hometown. I wanted to help him out, so I joined him. After that we have had so many miles in a van with a trailer and now we are competing in the biggest drift series in the world. I did not expect that 4 – 5 years ago!

2011 Clipping Point: Mickie Frial

Posted on June 22, 2011 by Toxic

EverythingDrift: When did you first get into drifting and how did you find out about it? And who or what inspires your drifting style?

Mickie Frial: I first got into drifting around 1998-2000.  My cousin Tom always had Option Mags and Hyper Rev laying around and at the time my dad owned the 240SX that I now drive.  My cousin would always ask my dad to sell him the 240 once he got the money.  Cool Fact of the day – my dad bought my car new off the lot in 1990 and I’ve kind of been in love with it ever since.  I remember seeing pictures in Option of 180sx’s and I was like “You can do that with my dad’s car? Cool!”  I inherited the car in 2000 and promptly proceeded to crash it up a curb during a massive understeer.  I told my dad someone cut me off and I swerved to avoid a big accident.  I dont think he believed me but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

There aren’t a lot of people that inspire my drifting style, but if I had to pick I’d say Taniguchi and Koguchi from 2001-2004 era.  Their cars were basically badass street cars.  Nowadays most pro drift cars look like freeway billboards.

I think I’m more inspired by music more than anything.  I’m going to see Megadeth and MachineHead in July and I’m super psyched on that.

2011 Clipping Point: Charlie Ongsingco

Posted on April 4, 2011 by Toxic

We had the opportunity to ask Charlie Ongsingco of the Drifting organization Just Drift some questions to get to know him better and allow you some of the drivers of the Top Drift series some insight to Charlie.

EverythingDrift: When did you first get into drifting and how did you find out about it?
Charlie Ongsingco: Initial D!!!!! Just kidding.. lol. I raced carts when I was a kid, and I would just toss it sideways all the time and laugh. I wasn’t going to win anyway; I was too heavy for karts. So I just messed around and
had fun with it. Then 10 years or so ago, I was watching drift vids with friends before going to the canyons and run. Few chassis later… we learned drifting. The hard way.
