EverythingDrift: When Did you First Get into Drifting . And how did you meet Fredric.
Steffen Moy: I have always been into drifting, or motorsports overall. About 10 years ago, I used to race a Honda Civic in road racing, and I have been a mechanic for a friend of me that did some rallying. I have always been into cars, mostly RWD, spending so many hours on snowy roads. As drifting became more popular in Norway, I have always been in the scene, ether as a mechanic, judge, etc., but never competed myself. But yeah, once upon a time I helped Fredric tow his drift car, a BMW back to Norway from a drift event in Sweden. We both had the same passion about the sport and I guess it just clicked. The weekend after that he was going to Finland for an event up there, which is a long drive from our hometown. I wanted to help him out, so I joined him. After that we have had so many miles in a van with a trailer and now we are competing in the biggest drift series in the world. I did not expect that 4 – 5 years ago!
eDRIFT: How is it to travel with Aasbo and Team Need for Speed all over the world.
Steffen: A lot of fun! I have learned sooooo much over the last two years. Last year was insane, totally out of control, we only had one goal; do what it takes to do our best in FD. This year we have more control. Papadakis and his mechanics do an amazing job with the car, so Fredric and I can focus on the driving. We are making big progress every event, with the team and results. Besides that we do demos for Formula Drift and Team Need For Speed. Next up after Vegas is BDC in England and Prodrift in Ireland with Darren McNamara, which is why I can’t compete in Just Drift Rd 4.
eDRIFT: What is the best part of your job.
Steffen: I love my job! That is pretty much it! Every day is different, I get to work with cars, motorsports, great people and travel a lot. I like every part of it!
eDRIFT: With your second place finish at Just Drift Top Rd.3 to you feel the need to want to compete in anymore events. And is Aasbo going to have to watch his back lol.
Steffen: Just Drift Rd 3 was my first drift competition ever. My goal was to test myself, see if I could do what i usually tell Fredric to do. And I have to say, for driving the Japan Auto Supra for the first time, first time doing tandem runs, I’m pretty happy with the result, and it was super fun. In the finals with Ryan Clemens, I really had to step it up, he is a great driver and I learnt a lot when i was chasing him. So, of course, I want drive more, but I also want to help Fredric win the Formula Drift Championship. He has way more seat-time then i have, so I guess he can stay calm for a while, hehe.
eDRIFT: What car is your ultimate drift car if you can build anything
you want?
Steffen: That’s really hard to answer! I don’t know too much about that car yet, but a Scion FR-S with a LS7 should be a perfect FD machine. Or maybe with a big budget, the Supra should be a bad ass car.
eDRIFT: What is your favorite track to visit of the FD series
Steffen: Seattle! I just love the cars on full throttle true that bank, with the banners wavering when the drivers are pushing it all up against the wall. And the spectators are awesome, so much noise and energy. And we beat JR there last year. -Check!
Steffen: I would like to say a big thank you to Devin Lee, Teddy, Fredric and the owner of the Japan Auto Supra, Tom Ole for helping me get out there.
I would like the say thanks To Steffen for giving his time to answer the question and Fredric for helping out. also shout out to Ellen Edoh for helping with some of the Questions. Hope you will see some of her work soon.
