Two years ago the final FD round, my first visit to Irwindale, was ramping up to be special for two reasons. Firstly this was ‘defiantly the last ever, no-way we’re coming back here’ round at The House Of Drift, and secondly, James Deane was on track for taking the championship in his first season back in America. Well since I’m back turning onto Speedway Drive with James on track to be the first FD driver to take three champions back to back we know how that all went.
As if scripted by Hollywood screenwriters, the Formula DRIFT Black Magic PRO Championship would again result in a nail biting, heavyweight showdown at its Final round. And sticking with tradition, the Final took place at the House of Drift – Irwindale Speedway in Southern California – in front of a capacity crowd.
Long Beach, Calif. – June 3, 2017 – Formula DRIFT Black Magic Pro Championship presented by BlackVue Dash Cameras returned to Wall Speedway in New Jersey for the fourth event of the season. Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis in the Falken Tire / Drifz Wheels Nissan 240 battled his way to victory.
“As we hit the half way point of the season, there’s still plenty of action left,” said Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. “These are the best drifters from around the world and the championship is still up for grabs.”
Long Beach, Calif. – April 29, 2017 – Formula DRIFT Black Magic Pro Championship presented by BlackVue Dash Cameras returned to Orlando for Round 2: Unchartered Territory. Fredric Aasbo in the Rockstar Energy Drink / Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla iM takes the victory and moves into the lead in the standings.
“This season is shaping up to be very entertaining and competitive one,” said Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. “The standings were shaken up after the last round with only 55 points separating the Top 7 drivers.”
Kansas City, Mo. – Formula Drift champion Michael Essa will compete during the 2016 season using 18”x10” Corsair Hybrid wheels from CCW Forged Performance, a WELD brand. Essa returns to the E46 BMW M3 chassis in which he captured the Formula Drift championship in 2013.
“We are excited to work with Michael as he returns to Formula Drift in his CCW equipped M3,” said Keith Kern, general manager of CCW Forged Performance. “Michael is a proven champion that we proudly support with our performance wheels. We extend him best wishes for the upcoming season.”
Kern says the Hybrid series of wheels are specifically designed for use on track and is the wheel of choice for top performance builders. Each Corsair wheel has passed a punishing 3,000 pound (per wheel) cornering fatigue test load at 300,000 cycles, which is approximately 20 percent more cornering load and double the cycles that original equipment wheels are tested to. This Past weekend we were out and about and Helping staff the Drift Demo out at the 20th Annual Thunder On The Lot event. Thunder on the Lot was founded in June of 1995 by Ron Emard. Thunder on the Lot started as a small car and motorcycle show on the lot of the Robertson Palmdale Honda dealership. The event operates over a two day period and occupies over 100 acres. As the event has grown, so have the donations, with $3,000 collected the first year to an upwards of $336,000 collected in recent years. Since 1995, Kids Charities events have collected over $4 million dollars, of that $3.8 million was raised from Thunder on the Lot proceeds.
Funds go directly to supporting the Kids Charities recipients.
