Formula D may have crowned its champion for 2017 but we still have to find out who is the best at the House of Drift. Sadly this appears to be the curtain call event for FD at Irwindale Speedway, so we are sure the drivers and teams will be giving it their all so they can have the privilege to say they won the last event at this iconic drifting track. Title Fight sure knows how to bring out the drama and excitement year after year. So we want to hear from you what has been your favorite moment at Irwindale Speedway from best drift run you have seen or a memorable moment. Any thing that has been special to you at this amazing venue.

My best FD moment was when I took my 8 year daughter to the event for the first time and she actually loved it! Like Mother, like daughter. Asbo won that year and she ended up getting his 1st place hat that he had threw into the crowd! It was an amazing time with my mini me. She understood why Mommy loves being at the track watching cars and smelling tire smoke. It was fun seeing her cheer for the drivers, we also walked around and she took pictures with them at their booths. Those moments I’ll never forget at Irwindale. Please let me take her again, before they close it! ❤️
I’ve had a few. One was walking into the track grounds for the first time, while walking under the bleaches and seeing the billowing smoke flowing through the gaps and down the stairs. It was a beautiful sight. Then possibly that same event watching Matt Field almost take down that years champion Diago Saito. Seeing Matts under powered car keep up with daigo monster was amazing. Irwindale is probably my favorite track to be at. Such a cool atmosphere. I’m sad I can’t make it to the last event due to other trips planned and can’t afford it. But if win the tickets I can’t not go.
Irwindale 2016 was one to remember. The stands were packed and eager to watch the championship unfold. Several great drivers chose not to return after this: Forrest Wang, Pat Mordaunt, Tyler Mcquarrie… all drove so well at the Final Fight. So much angle that we have lost, so it was a treasure to see them! Hopefully, the Pro2 drivers moving up will bring it. Most importantly, Matt Field killed it and the crowd loved it. His short-lived GOW livery was brilliant.
Over the years the House Of Drift has been a special place for my family and I to enjoy some of the best door-to-door competition in motorsport. All three of my kids enjoy motorsports, but drifting is by far our favorite, and they have grown up watching every event, just like drifting has grown over the past decade. Access into the garage area is great for them to see these are cars and drivers within reach of what my kids can do in their future.
That said, last year, going into the event with Gittin, Forseberg, and Aasbo all in the running, seeing Gittin knocked out of Top 32 and Forseberg knocked out of top 16 in an early heat, #64 and his team were watching Aasbo’s heat intently. As Aasbo was knocked out by Field (who would eventually win the event), we were right there when #64 was thrown into the air by his team as he was declared champion by points. Seeing that celebration was so memorable and vivid. So much hard work goes into getting the championship for three different titles all while using the same weapon of choice.

Things will never be the same again for local car enthusiasts/Motor heads that grew up going too Irwindale. It’s the only race track in Southern California that holds monthly events open too the public. The Auto Club Speedway is down the way from Irwindale but it’s just not the same. No matter what age, race or gender you are there is always a place for you there, from driving too spectating. It’s amazing seeing the various type of drivers that come out of that place. My most memorable moments there were probably on the holidays when they held Night Of Destruction. The shows always ended with a big firework show. Luckily for me I learned too buy my tickets early enough because they always sold out very quickly.
Overall, I always enjoyed going too Thursday Night Drift. Sometimes you really never knew who you were gonna see there. At times It was hard paying attention too the drIfting when you had 1000+ hp cars shooting down the drag strip right across the way from the Drift course.
I’ve actually won a pair of tickets a couple times already through You guys. Hopefully this doesn’t disqualify me from winning again. I actually follow and see all your content. I’m not a stranger. I just had too mention that because you’ve asked for predictions on who was going to win the championship and the battle at Irwindale. And everytime I’ve been right. I’ve been mentioning that it would be awesome if one day we could get the best drivers from Drift All-stars into Formula Drift. I predicted that James Deane would come back one day and he did. Not only is he back but he’s back with a vengeance and his eyes on the prize. This guy is no joke. It’s his first year back and he’s already number one in the standings. Those Irishman don’t play around. My prediction for 2017 FD champion is James Deane. And the last battle that will be held there is going too be between James Deane and Fredric Assbo. How awesome is that? Two non Americans killing American competition.
I’m very confident on my prediction
It’s true, Irwindale was a part of US drift culture since 2003. I was there for the first pro event!
