Formula DRIFT Announces 2018 Championship Calendar

Long Beach, Calif. – December 5, 2017 – Formula DRIFT Black Magic Pro Championship has announced the official 2018 calendar for the Pro and four Pro2 Championship.  The 15th Anniversary season will feature eight rounds of competition within the continental United States.

 

Notable changes include the addition of Gateway Motorsports Park, located just outside St. Louis, MO to fill a highly requested area in the Midwest.  Las Vegas will replace the iconic Irwindale Speedway for the season finale, due to Irwindale’s closure this coming January.

Formula Drift 2017: Finals – Through Kevin’s Lens

I’ve shot at a lot of tracks over the last few years, Silverstone, Mondello, even indoors at Green Glens arena in Ireland for an IDC event but there was something special driving into 500 Speedway Drive for round 8 of this years Formula Drift. For the last 14 years the House of Drift has played an important role in bringing Drifting to the USA and the global stage but the iconic track has had an axe hovering over it for the last couple of years after being purchased by a property developer to build a mall on the site, and now it appears to have fallen and this is billed as its final event.


Adding to the buzz this weekend Irish driver James Deane has the title in the bag just needing points from qualifying in the top 32. With a bye run, normally qualifying would have been good enough but FD moved the goal posts after Texas meaning to score the points James had to complete his top 32 run as well. While on paper that should be a celebration lap this is motorsport and things can go wrong.

Formula DRIFT Round 8: O’Reilly Auto Parts “Title Fight” Results

Long Beach, Calif. – October 14, 2017 – Formula DRIFT Black Magic Pro Championship presented by BlackVue Dash Cameras returned to Irwindale Speedway for Round 8: O’Reilly Auto Parts “Title Fight”.  Piotr Wiecek in the Worthhouse / Falken Tire Nissan 240 takes home his first Formula DRIFT victory and clinches Rookie of the Year honors, while his teammate James Deane in the Worthouse / Falken Tire Nissan 240 clinches his first Formula DRIFT Championship.

Formula D Rd.8 Title Fight Ticket Giveaway.

Formula D may have crowned its champion for 2017 but we still have to find out who is the best at the House of Drift. Sadly this appears to be the curtain call event for FD at Irwindale Speedway, so we are sure the drivers and teams will be giving it their all so they can have the privilege to say they won the last event at this iconic drifting track. Title Fight sure knows how to bring out the drama and excitement year after year.
