ENEOS – Japan’s largest oil company and supplier of motor oil and transmission fluids to the majority of Asian vehicle manufacturers – is pleased to announce it will again support Japanese driver Daijiro Yoshihara in the Formula DRIFT PRO Championship. A week before the opening round at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, ENEOS and Dai are marking the fifth year of their motorsports partnership, although Dai’s connection to the brand dates back to when he worked at an ENEOS gas station as a young man in his native Tokyo. I’ve shot at a lot of tracks over the last few years, Silverstone, Mondello, even indoors at Green Glens arena in Ireland for an IDC event but there was something special driving into 500 Speedway Drive for round 8 of this years Formula Drift. For the last 14 years the House of Drift has played an important role in bringing Drifting to the USA and the global stage but the iconic track has had an axe hovering over it for the last couple of years after being purchased by a property developer to build a mall on the site, and now it appears to have fallen and this is billed as its final event.
Adding to the buzz this weekend Irish driver James Deane has the title in the bag just needing points from qualifying in the top 32. With a bye run, normally qualifying would have been good enough but FD moved the goal posts after Texas meaning to score the points James had to complete his top 32 run as well. While on paper that should be a celebration lap this is motorsport and things can go wrong.

Long Beach, Calif. September 23, 2014 With only one race left in the 2014 Formula DRIFT season, Ford Motor Company heads to Irwindale Speedway in California looking to finish strong in the season finale there. Vaughn Gittin Jr., in third place, and Justin Pawlak, in seventh, will compete in customized Ford Mustangs Oct. 10-11, in the final fight of the seven-event series.
“Im really pumped to be heading into the final fight of 2014 at Irwindale Speedway, said Gittin Jr. While we are no longer battling for the championship, we plan to hold our ground and take third overall in the series.
This is something Im really excited about, given the challenges we had to overcome this season, he added. The progression of drifting never ceases to amaze me, and this year has been insane with regard to the level of competition. Our Ford Mustang RTR has been fully up to the task and continues to be a performance bar-setting machine, round after round. We are looking forward to fighting hard and ending the season on the top step.
