BALTIMORE, Md. (June 27, 2011) – Vaughn Gittin Jr. slid into Seattle over the weekend and jumped back in the driver’s seat of the Monster Energy Falken Tire Ford Mustang, ready to battle his fellow Formula Drift competitors. Evergreen Speedway was host to Round 5, with a course consisting of a long bank and an exciting transition to a technical infield. After fighting his way all the way to top 8, Vaughn finished the event in a very respectable 7th place overall.
With a sold-out event and not a cloud in the sky, fans piled into the grandstands and the paddock of Evergreen Speedway, eager to check out their favorite Formula Drift drivers. While not on track, Vaughn could be found along with his Monster Energy Mustang, over at the always-booming Team Falken Tire pit area. Vaughn’s Team Need for Speed ’69 Mustang RTR-X was on display at the Need for Speed booth; it was quite the jaw-dropper. Also on-site over at the Exedy booth, the #40 production Mustang RTR was brought to Evergreen Speedway, courtesy of Price Ford of Port Angeles, WA.
Back on the track, Vaughn would lead first against competitor Matt Field in his battle of the top thirty-two. Vaughn entered early and swept the bank high, maintaining huge angle, before transitioning into the infield. Vaughn put the rear of his car right up against the inner clipping point, and continued to stay on line, as Field tried to keep up with the Ford Mustang. When following, Vaughn put the pressure on his competitor and was given the advantage to move on to the Sweet Sixteen. Watch the VIDEO.
Vaughn was matched with Aurimas Bakchis for his top 16 battle. Vaughn gave chase first, and stuck to his competitor on the bank, much closer to the wall. With extreme angle coming off the bank, he continued to put the pressure of Bakchis through the course. When it was his turn to lead, Vaughn blazed through the course as the Falken Tire smoke bellowed behind him, as his competitor attempted to stay close, but with a more shallow line. Vaughn was awarded the win and would move on to the Great Eight. Watch the VIDEO.
Vaughn was faced with Dai Yoshihara in the top eight. Vaughn followed first and was right on his competitor on entry, until he was forced to straighten up and into the wall after his competitor slowed abruptly. Vaughn quickly regained his drift and speed, and followed close to Yoshihara through the rest of the course. When leading, Vaughn threw down a sick run, scrapping the wall on the bank, as well as the rear clipping point in the infield. However, Yoshihara would be awarded the win and Vaughn would end his day in 7th place overall. Watch the VIDEO.
“I am pumped on how my team and I performed,” says Vaughn Gittin Jr. “We were all on our game and that’s all I can ask for. Seattle is always an amazing event, and the crowd and my fans more than made up for my results.”
