After months of waiting and denials, Hyundai announced today that Rhys Millen would officially unveil his Red Bull-sponsored Hyundai Genesis drift car at the Chicago Auto show this weekend. Along with their press release were several photos, including 1 of Rhys drifting the car at what appears to be Willow Springs. We can’t say that anyone was really surprised after his Super Bowl commercial, but the one thing to note in these photos is that Rhys is now on Toyo tires. With Tanner over on Hankook, it looks like he hooked his former roommate up with his old deal.
2 more pics and more details on the car after the jump
The car will use the 3.8L V6, not the 2.0L turbo motor that is currently in Rhys’s Time Attack car. It has been stroked to 4.1L (presumably by Brian Crower) and has a Turbonetics Turbocharger on it. Close sources to ours have driven both the 4cyl and V6 pre-production cars, and mentioned that the V6 chassis feels remarkably similar to the 350Z as far as power delivery, weight balance, and overall handling goes out of the box. Also, nearly all the body panels have been converted to Carbon Fiber, a project Millen first undertook for the time attack car. This bodykit will likely be available to the general public soon after the car is launched, much like the RMR GTO bodykit was readily available during the 2004 drifting season.
The car is using a VQ motor from a 350z.
