Drift Association Updates
June 8th, 2009
Drift Association proudly welcomes the new 2009 tire sponsor Nexen! We would sincerely like to thank Falken Tire Corporation for 5 years of great support. Your efforts with Drift Association will never be forgotten.
We have been on our toes keeping up with events from the second half of April to the end of May. What a busy month and a half! On April 25th, we were there to lend a helping hand to the new drift organization, Inland Drift where they celebrated their successful grand opening at Lake Perris Fair Grounds. Thank you to Nitro2Go for the supply of energy drinks.
For the 2nd consecutive weekend in a row, Drift Association was busy organizing events but this time with D1 Grand Prix at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, CA. Friday May 1st to Saturday May 2nd the staff worked hard on installing equipment into the competition cars, working course and helping out at start. Congratulations to Drift Association supported drivers, Cyrus Martinez and Quoc Ly for placing in the top 16! (We would like to wish Cyrus Martinez a safe trip to the Philippines as he promotes drifting outside of the United States.) (Photo by Everythingdrift.com)
The May 23rd event at El Toro brought on a sense of nostalgia as several well known professional drivers and old school Cal Speedway attendees came out for a Drift Day event. The location may different, but the love for the sport and the excitement will always remain the same. May 23rd attendees: Ken Gushi, John Russakoff, Andy Yen, Taka Aono, Justin Pawlak, Hiro Sumida, Ray from Kaaz, Alex Pfeiffer and Yoshie Shuyama. We also welcomed the AE86 Nights group who put on their first autocross event.
We would like to congratulate the following graduating Drift 101 and 102 students:
Drew Puar (Graduated 101 May 22nd at Lake Perris Fair Grounds)
Justin Honda (Graduated 101 May 23rd at El Toro)
Daniel Andersen (Graduated 101 May 23rd at El Toro)
Jeffrey Miller (Graduated 102 May 23rd at El Toro)
For the past several years Drift Association has promoted safety first and has provided a safe place for enthusiasts to come out and drive. We showed support to the Los Angeles Police Department on May 30th at their car show by displaying drift cars and an information booth. We provided information on safe driving and information on our successful Drift 101 program.
