We arrived at Lydden Hill Friday afternoon a bit later than planned due to the bank holiday traffic but we made it. The car was gathering a bit of attention before it was even off the trailer due to a massive change in colour and styling over the winter.
After the car was off and prepared for practice on Saturday we had a catch up with everyone we hadn’t seen since the end of last season before retreating to the hotel for the night. Saturday morning we woke and it had rained overnight which meant our first practice session would be on a damp but drying track. Having not driven the car since October I would of preferred a dry track but that would have to wait. With practice underway I built myself up with each run.
By the time the second session started the track had dried and the speeds increased. The session was cut short due to an accident but I was happy with the car after practice. With a few hours break before qualifying we checked the car over and made sure it was ready qualifying. The sun was out for qualifying which meant we could carry some speed through the course which we all love.
I did 2 average runs and a 3rd that was a bit more aggressive and gave me a 16th qualifying position. On Sunday the weather was dull and wet in the morning and didn’t look like there was any chance of it clearing up. Fortunately it did and the track was dry again by the time we were out for our battles. I was up against Michael Marshall who was last years champion. I watched his qualifying runs and he was super fast so knew it was going to be difficult but fun at the same time. The improvements to the car over the winter meant I was able to chase closer than I have before which gave me some confidence going into my lead run.
It was a close call between us but Michael won the battle due to a slight dirt drop by myself so I was eliminated from the competition. The car feels great to drive now after the improvements over the winter, it has lost a lot of weight and had some grip dialed into the rear setup all thanks to Marc from Huxley Motorsport.
I can’t wait to get back out in the car to tweak the setup and improve it some more ready for round 2. Would like to say a massive thanks to all my sponsors, Steelmate Automotive, Huxley Motorsport, SRB Power, Garage Whifbitz, Everythingdrift/RBPhotography and utopia signs. Thank you all so much.
Great looking car and I think you will build confidents in the car and yourself . Give it time forget the rest and give it your best and you will succeed . Dad
