Looking Back on 2009 – What an incredible year!
Vaughn Gittin Jr. had another incredible season in 2009 – from placing fifth overall in Formula Drift to “Unleashing” his Mustang side all over Japan, from traveling the United States in a Mustang GT500 to drifting Road America with Brian Redman in the passenger seat, from appearing in hit television shows to nationwide newspapers – there is no question that Vaughn was everywhere you looked this year.
Formula Drift
Vaughn was the one to watch in the 2009 season of Formula Drift, as he was a contender for the Championship all the way up until the final round. When the smoke cleared, Vaughn had finished the season in a respectable fifth place. He took second place at Round Two at Wall Stadium in New Jersey and stood atop the coveted podium with two of his teammates for the first-ever Team Falken Tire sweep. He also finished in fourth place at Evergreen Speedway in Washington.
The ’10 Unleashed
Ford’s ’10 Unleashed campaign gave ten people the opportunity to Unleash their Mustang side and live out their dreams. The very first of the ’10 Unleashed episodes was entitled “Mustang Drift: Japan” where Vaughn accomplished a personal fantasy by drifting the 2010 Mustang at many legendary tracks all over Japan, as well as letting renowned Japanese drifters test the incredible handling of the Mustang. This event marked the first time a 2010 Ford Mustang had graced Japan’s soil. Footage from the trip was also compiled for a 30 second commercial that ran numerous times during the Summer X Games 15. A print ad from the campaign was also featured in 21 popular magazines including Men’s Fitness, Car and Driver, Maxim, and Sports Illustrated.
Vaughn also helped to finish off the ’10 Unleashed campaign when he and Las Vegas headliner and mega-illusionist, Steve Wyrick, created a fascinating stunt that had never been done before entitled “Mustang Spellbinder”. The stunt came together beautifully and stunned the crowd of Las Vegas Boulevard. To check out both of these ’10 Unleashed episodes, visit The2010Mustang.com.
Ford Exhibitions
The 2009 season was quite a busy one for Vaughn. When he wasn’t competing, he was performing drifting exhibitions around the nation and displaying the motorsport phenomenon of drifting to the masses.
Vaughn rocked the crowds when he performed drifting demos and provided ride-alongs at Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale in January, and again in Las Vegas in October. Car-enthusiasts and auction-goers were leaping at the opportunity to win a ride with Vaughn. He even took Ford Champion John Force for a ride; John was bldr own away by the experience and showed to have a great earned respect for drifting. Check out a VIDEO from Scottsdale’s Barrett Jackson.
Vaughn partook in the 45th Anniversary of the Mustang by driving a Ford Mustang GT500 across the country with over 500 other Mustangs. The tour stopped at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, where Vaughn would perform demos and provide ride-alongs around the beautiful track. Many of the die-hard Mustang fans were amazed at what Vaughn was able to do in a Mustang, and drifting easily gained a few hundred more fans. Watch the VIDEO from the weekend.
At the Kohler International Challenge with Brian Redman that took place at Road America, Vaughn was once again on hand to entertain the crowd. He was able to get legendary Formula One driver Brian Redman in the passenger’s seat. After his ride, Redman announced he wanted Vaughn to teach him how to drift. Watch the VIDEO of his ride.
A huge year for media
2009 was by far the biggest year for Vaughn as far as his media impressions. He was featured in more print/web advertisements, print/web articles, television news broadcasts, television shows, and online videos than ever before! - – Cover article of Import Tuner
- – Cover article of Modified Mustangs
- – Mustang Drift Japan television commercial

A new generation of Mustang
In 2009, Vaughn introduced the world to a new generation of the Mustang – the Mustang RTR. Vaughn dreamt of this vision for years, and thanks to the help of his design team and Classic Design Concepts, he has turned that vision into a reality. The Mustang RTR is a performance and appearance package that dealerships nationwide will provide beginning in February 2010.
The halo of the RTR brand is the Mustang RTR-C – a one-hundred percent carbon fiber car with enough performance upgrades to make any car-enthusiast drool. The RTR-C debuted at SEMA this year and was voted Autoblog.com’s favorite Mustang at the show. Only 10 of these extremely limited cars will be built and owners will be able to track the progress of the build online. More information will be soon to follow, but for right now, check out Mustang RTR.com.
