Boss Motorsport: Steve Moore’s British Drift Championship Round 4 Review

Posted on August 29, 2014 by Robert Borowik

Hello! Welcome to my next drivers report. Following on from my previous write up at Teesside Autodrome, the car was bought back to Boss Motorsport HQ, where the team completely stripped the front suspension to inspect the damage that was caused during battle with Dave Waterworth. After replacing the steering rack, both track rods, both lower control arms and a wheel, the car was then given a full realignment before being packed back into the truck. We were ready to hit the road once more for round 4 at Lydden Hill Race circuit in Kent.

This time things would be shaken up for the return to the hill, as the drivers would face a whole new challenge with the circuit now running in reverse! This is the first time this has ever happened in the history of Lydden Hill.

Open practice kicked off early on Saturday morning. The new track layout was proving a challenge for my SR20 powered S14. However with a few adjustments to the tyre pressures and suspension geometry, I was now back on pace with the rest of the field. Nearing the end of the session I was pushing hard with some door on door twining.

Going into qualifying I was feeling confident and the setup felt good, the weather had stayed dry for a change and I gave everything that I could, which rewarded me a spot in the top 16 from a super close qualifying.

Game day I was up against Spanish champion Louis Lopez in his V8 powered S14 for the top 16 battles. Once again the Great British weather was playing its part, heavy down pours and sunshine were giving some drivers dry battles and others wet ones. When I headed out for my battle the track was almost dry, except for a small trickle of water running down the track near clip 3. I chased first, keeping good proximity with Louis throughout the entire course. With a fairly even score it was all to play for in the next run. On the second run I was pushing as hard as I could to create a gap, but on the run up to clip 3 throwing large angle I hit the running water, which through me into a half spin and with that small error the judges favored Louis’ run and he moved on into the great 8.

Once again I would like to thank all my sponsors and fans for their continued support and all the hard work from the media team at EverythingDrift.com, RB Photography and GFB Media. I’m now looking forward to the next round at Silverstone race circuit on the 7th September.
