Round 5 of the British Drift Championship saw the competition return to Silverstone circuit at the TRAX event, with just the Super Pro class competing. Our team driver Steve Moore’s Silvia S14 had been fully repaired after round 4 at Teesside and was ready to compete.
The weekend began with practice on Sunday morning limited to twenty minute sessions, which left very little time to get the car dialled into the track and set up the Achilles tyres for optimum performance/grip. Steve nailed his first couple runs and confidently kept pushing the car to its limit’s, and with some minor tweaks to the car he started to find the qualifying line the judges were looking for. The Achilles were performing well on the dry hot track and producing plenty of smoke throughout the two sessions.
Qualifying started with all the BDC drivers putting in awesome runs and setting the standards high, leaving Steve with no room for error and he did not disappoint by putting two great laps to finish in the top 16, confidence was high in the team for the afternoon’s battles with the S Chassis handling perfectly and Steve driving well.
Top 16 battles saw some mouth-watering match ups with Steve drawing Irelands Paul Conlan in his Nissan S15 and an all Japspeed battle with Shane Lynch drawing team mate Paul Smith.
Steve put in a faultless two runs in the match up with Paul Conlan and powered through the course to take the victory, hitting all the clipping points and smoking out the large crowd at the end of the Wellington straight. This saw Steve draw another Irish driver in the form of Team WKD’s Wesley Keating in his Nissan 180SX for a place in the Semi Finals.
Once again the team got to work on the Silvia and changed to a new set of the Achilles that were giving Steve loads of grip to work with massive confidence, all seemed well at the start line but after chasing down Wes in the first run the front left wheel locked up on the second run, causing Steve to spin out entering the last corner after pulling a narrow gap which would of gave the judges a hard decision to make.
The team returned to the pits with more great championship points to take to the last round of the season at Trac Mon, Anglesey race circuit and a great result from the weekend.
All three drivers will be back in action with all three classes running the welsh circuit on the 20th and 21st of September, which looks like being an epic finale to the season with Boss Motorsport hoping to move up the championship ladder and optimistic of a great result.
Once again we would like to thank all our sponsors and fans for their continued support and all the hard work of our media team at Everythingdrift.com, RB Photography and GFB Media.
