For round 2 of the British Drift Championship we headed north over the border and into Scotland to Knockhill. This track is always exciting as it features a blind crest into a huge drop through the first turn before compressing the cars suspension through the second and slowing into the final corner.
If the track isnt enough of a challenge you can always rely on the Scottish weather to throw a curve ball in with some tricky conditions, most of the weekend would feature showers causing the drivers to have the added difficulty of a track that was continously changing in grip levels. This would lead to some spins and a few collisions.
The Pro-Am class would run on Saturday, the practice sessions were mainly dry giving the drivers a chance to familiarise themselves with the judged line.
Afterwards the drivers would get their chance to qualify for the afternoon Top-32, a notable qualifier was David Cooper who gained his place through Driftcup Round 1.
Adam Simmons would qualify first with a score of 72.5.
The Top-32 would be exciting as Kyle Chisholm would make it all the way to the podium in a borrowed car.
The top spot on the podium was taken by Adam Simmons making for a perfect day after his earlier qualifying runs, David Egan would take second place.
Sunday would bring more tricky conditions in the morning, lots of drivers were misjudging the grip levels and taking to the gravel traps. The rain subsided towards the end of practice and the cars started to dry the line and create some smoke during the qualifying session.
The top qualifier was Mark Luney in the Nankang Toyota Supra, a score of 83.5 shows how well he is doing this year.
The battles would end with Mark Luney in 3rd after a battle with Micheal Marshall, Jack Shanahan would take 2nd with Steve Moore taking the win.
We would like to congratulate Steve on his win and we hope there are many more to come. The next round is held at Teesside Autodrome on the weekend of the 11th & 12th of July, for more information and tickets visit http://www.thebritishdriftchampionship.co.uk. Until then we will leave you with some more photos.
