Going into Round 4 of the Monster Energy King of Europe Drift ProSeries at Lydden Hill in the United Kingdom, team Cartu Drifting driver Adam Frank was bearing a few goals in mind. First of all, get P1 in the qualifying session for the second time at this venue. Then, showing the British fans how he takes on the actual tandem battles, as due to a mechanical failure, he did not manage to start in the Top32 back in 2014. Then, get a second consecutive 2015 podium. And last but not least, take the lead of the ProSeries, and pave the way to his first ever King of Europe Championship Title. After two days of actual competition, a total of almost 3 days spent on the road to and back from Lydden, and another week spent in the workshop to have the car all ready, Adam Frank managed to accomplish all of his goals for the weekend.
Day 2 at Lydden Hill started with a one hour window dedicated to Tandem Practice. With the car working perfect and Adam feeling in top shape, there was nothing left to do but move on to the main moment of the race. The Top32 saw Adam take on local top driver Keilan Woods, in the KWDrifting Nissan RPS13. Keilan is a Lydden Hill regular, and even though he managed to get a tie on the second run of their battle,he lost the first one 1-9 , and Adam was going to advance to the Top16. French driver Antoine Amar was up next, and Adam knew that this wasn’t going to be easy, as Antoine showed some pretty impressive driving skills at round 1 of the 2015 season in Anneau du Rhin. Adam pulled a massive entry going into turn 1 , and by the end of the lap, the judges decided on a 7-3 in his favor. With a 6-4 for Antoine on the second run, it meant that team Cartu Drifting would continue their race for the podium and for the series leadership.
Sticking to the S-Chassis theme, the Top8 opponent was not going to be Steve Biagioni as initially expected, but Brad McQueen in his Nissan S14, as Baggsy suffered a drivetrain failure during his Top16 runs. Adam Frank sealed the deal in just two runs, getting an 8-2 on the first run and a 7-3 on the second one. Seeing as Norbert Kovacik was out of the race starting with the Top16, this meant that for the first time in the history of the team, Cartu Drifting was the series leader, with only Szilveszter Gyorgy being able to change the situation. But the Hungarian top driver lost his Top8 battle, which automatically meant that no matter the end result, Adam Frank would be the new Championship Leader after Round 4 in Lydden Hill. The semifinal was not going to be an easy one, as the next opponent would be triple King of Europe champion Adam Kerenyi, who’s had a rough season so far, but was looking eager to make a strong comeback at Round 4. The two drivers went in like mad going into turn one at speeds of over 120 kph, and they were virtually inseparable throughout the entire track, which meant the only result the judges could dictate was 5-5. As both drivers gave it their best shot, Adam Kerenyi manage to get slightly ahead of Adam on his lead run, just enough to have the judges rule a 6-4 in his favor, which meant Adam was now going into the Small Final, to battle for 3rdplace.
The fight for 3rd was over quickly, as Adam Frank only needed two runs to defeat former German drift champion Markus Muller, who was also driving a JZ powered BMW E46. This marks the second consecutive podium for Adam Frank in the 2015 season, and the 5th King of Europe podium in the past 12 events (2014 and 2015) which in itsef is a significant achievement, not just considering the fact that he is now 85 points in front of the second ranked driver in the series, Norbert Kovacik, and almost 100 points ahead of Szilveszter Gyorgy, but also considering that he is now leading the overall ProSeries rankings going into Round 5.
“I can pretty much say that it has been an awesome weekend for us here at Round 4 in Lydden Hill! Sure, it would’ve been great to win the race and make it a consecutive victory after Austria, but I’m not going to complain.I repeated my qualifying performance from last year, taking P1 once again, I finished on the podium, had some great battles throughout the weekend with the car working perfect, and I am now the King of Europe Drift ProSeries points leader! There are still four more rounds to go, but I feel as we are one step closer to achieving one of the most important goals we set for ourselves almost 3 years ago when together with Josh Cartu we started this project: winning the European Drift Championship title! I feel humbled to have such a great team around me , have such amazing support from our top class partners, and I feel more eager and confident than ever to accomplish our goals!” said Adam Frank just after the race was finished.
For Round 5 and Round 6, the Monster Energy King of Europe Drift ProSeries will see the drivers heading over to Spain, for the last massive charge before the final round of the 11th season of the series, which is scheduled to take place at Slovakiaring late October of this year. “
