Moving on with the 2015 season of the King of Europe Drift ProSeries, reaching halfway through the year, Round 4 was scheduled to take place at Lydden Hill in the United Kingdom. This event would mark the debut of Szilveszter Gyorgy on UK soil, and also the debut of the new partnership with Achilles Tyres.
The team got a head start from Budapest, Hungary, as to quickly go over the almost 2000 kilometers ahead, and to get some rest before competition time. Lydden Hill Race Circuit as a whole provides a very impressive view, for both spectators and drivers alike.
Practice started early Saturday morning and run after run, Szilveszter was starting to get used to the layout and increase his attack and average speeds, while dialing in the perfect line, as requested by the judges. With a total of almost 40 drivers coming from both the United Kingdom, mainland Europe and even the Middle East, Szilveszter was already making himself noticed as having some of the best runs, and also leaving huge trails of red smoke behind lap after lap.
After two runs of qualifying, the results came in. With a total of 85.33 points, Szilveszter had qualified in 3rd place overall. With an attack speed of 107.2 kph, and an attack angle of 27.5 degrees, the average speed round the track was of 78 kph, while the average angle was measured at 36.8 degrees! Overall a very good result considering this was his first ever outing on the Lydden Hill layout! Just after qualifying , the schedule included one more hour of tandem practice, for the drivers to get familiarized with approaching the layout while tandeming.
Sunday morning saw the drivers lining up once again for practice, just before the start of the Top32 battles. In his first battle of the day, Szilveszter would go up against French driver Eddie Laissue, driving a BMW M5 powered E36. With a major mistake by the Hazardous Drift Crew driver, Szilveszter was awarded 10 points on the first run, more than enough to have him move on to the Top16. The next opponent would be local British driver Gary Mills, also driving a 2JZ powered S-Chassis. With an opponent much more familiarized with the race track, the battle was a very close one. Szilveszter managed to get a 6-4 on the first run, and with the score being a 5-5, the Achilles Nissan RPS13 was now moving on to the Top8.
Markus Muller, the German drift champion would be the Top8 opponent. Markus has already competed at Lydden Hill in 2014, and he was driving a JZ powered BMW E46. The situation was very balanced for the first two runs, and the judges asked for a One More Time for a decision to be made. Szilveszter then won the first run 6-4, but making a major mistake on the last run would see him get 0 points from the judges, and leaving him out of the race much earlier than anyone would have expected.
“I was really hoping to get a better result here at Lydden Hill, especially after qualifying 3rd, but it was not our weekend as it seems. I am now 3rd in the championship rankings , just 25 points behind Norbert Kovacik, and 69 points behind series leader Adam Frank, but with Round 5 in Tokol coming up next I have the confidence that I will be able to make up for the lost ground, and improve my current positioning. ” said Szilveszter just as the race was over.
Round 5 of the King of Europe Drift ProSeries will be held in Tokol, Hungary, on the 22nd and 23rd of August. More photos and videos of Szilveszter Gyorgy and his 2JZ Nissan RPS13 will be released soon. “
