Tanner Foust Wins Formula Drift® at Sonoma on Toyo® Tires, Resumes Championship Lead with One Race Remaining
SONOMA, CALIFORNIA – Defending 2007 Formula Drift® champion, Tanner Foust, resumed the points lead for the 2008 championship season this Saturday by winning the “Locked and Loaded” event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. Competing on Toyo® Proxes® R1R™ extreme performance tires, the driver of the Rockstar/AEM/Toyo Tires® Nissan 350Z from Papadakis Racing has resumed the championship points lead with only one race remaining in the season.
Foust won last season on Toyo’s Proxes R1R tires, crediting his tires for high track speeds coupled with a high level of control. A third place finish at the Long Beach season-opener showed that he would continue his championship-winning pace for the 2008 season. During Round 3 in Englishtown, New Jersey, Foust scored his first victory of this season which placed him in the championship lead. He dropped to second in the standings during a later race, but has proven once again why he is the defending Formula Drift champion with this weekend’s victory.
“We are thrilled to see Tanner win at Sonoma and to resume the championship points lead with only one race to go,” said Stan Chen, manager of events and motorsports, Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. “Tanner is once again proving the winning-capability of our off-the-shelf Proxes R1R tire.”
Toyo’s 140-UTQG rated Proxes R1R is ideal for aggressive street driving, and has won in competition from the 2007 Formula Drift and D1 GP championships to the street touring category of SCCA® autocross and the street classes at time attacks. The Proxes R1R fits 15- through 18-inch wheels and delivers maximum dry weather traction with an aggressive appearance for the enthusiast driver.
