When we first got the invitation to come check out the 2010 Mustang, we were a bit skeptical. We’ve been to a press day at a major auto show, and watching some corporate exec pull a car cover off of a new car just isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. But when we heard that Ford was using Vaughn Gittin Jr’s drift car for the 2009 season as THE first 2010 mustang which would be unveiled to the public, we decided to check it out. And we’re glad we did!
Not only was the evening highlighted by JR drifting into the makeshift-arena in his new Mustang as the official unveiling, but the 45 consecutive years of America’s favorite sportscar were highlighted with racing legends such as Mickey Thompson, John Force, and Carroll Shelby. While these names are all household names, it was JR who was given center stage to unveil the car to the press and public via a live show on SPEED TV. This was a huge decision that Ford Motor Company has made, showing how highly they place drifting on their radar.
All in all, the unveiling was great, and it makes us just that much more excited for the 2009 season! Oh yeah, and JR’s new car looks top notch! The car isn’t 100% complete, but was in drifting trim for the reveal.
