After an hour practice session and as the day closes on the track… Here are some notes from the pits and track.
Pat Mordaunt hit the tire wall on entry. Retired to pits to fix and prep for tomorrow.
Tony Brakahopia is working on his motor as it is having issues with oil pressure.
Sam Hubinette is having slight over heat issues. His crew will work through the down time to correct the issue.
more after the jump!
Eric O’Sullivan is getting more and more comfortable in his Hankook Rockstar STI. He hadn’t driven the car at all before today, and the extra runs he was getting in the late practice look promising for his shootout tomorrow with fellow countryman Darren McNamara.
Tommy Suell was walking around in the stands, he’s still sore from the collision earlier, but is in good spirits. His current shell was totaled, but he has a Corolla shell back in Vegas that he plans to build up in time for FD Atlanta.
Bill Sherman was seen walking around the pits today. He’s still looking for some sponsors to finalize his competition package for 2009. If any sponsors are reading this, help this guy out!!
Robbie Nishida had a transmission go out today, but all should be repaired in time for tomorrow.
Tanner Foust is getting up to speed quick in his Rockstar tC. We still can’t quite get used to the sound of a NASCAR V8 coming out of that tiny tC chassis!
Our unofficial “sweetest looking car” award goes to Ryuji Miki – his flat black RX7 with red and silver sparkle graphics looks great!
Matt Waldin’s new 350Z that we previewed earlier this year made the bump-spot in qualifying, facing top-qualifier Tanner Foust. The last man bumped was Ken Gushi in his renewed Scion Racing RS*R tC. Expect Gushi to come out gunning in Atlanta!
Justin Pawlak and Chris Forsberg both left streaks of paint on the wall just before the first clipping point. After qualifying, they went to compare, and Forsberg won the contest – his marks were perfectly within the clipping zone, while Pawlak’s mark was a few feet before the zone. If you get to the track tomorrow, check out the wall for yourself!
