Vaughn Gittin Jr. finishes strong at Formula D Round 2 in Atlanta
Vaughn Gittin Jr. rolled up to Formula Drift Round 2 at Road Atlanta last weekend in great spirits after a 6th place finish at the season opener a month earlier in Long Beach.
After qualifying in 8th place, Vaughn was set to run against former Falken Tire teammate Taka Aono in the top thirty-two. Vaughn led first with insane speed and angle, while Taka struggled to keep up to the Falken Tire Ford Mustang.
In their second run, Vaughn gave chase and stuck to Taka like glue. Vaughn earned the advantage and moved on to the Sweet Sixteen.
Vaughn was matched up with Drift Alliance brother and winner of Round One in Long Beach, Ryan Tuerck, for the battle of the Sweet Sixteen. Vaughn led first and came down the hill with intense speed and initiated early with crazy angle. Ryan stuck close, but Vaughn managed to pull away from him coming out of the horseshoe.
In the next run, Ryan led while Vaughn remained stuck to his back bumper, but unfortunately, he had a slight correction after coming out of the horseshoe. Both Vaughn and Ryan drove unbelievably, but the judges decided that the win belonged to Ryan.
Vaughn finished Round 2 in 11th place, and now stands in 8th place overall in the Formula Drift points chase for the Championship.
Congratulations to Drift Alliance members Chris Forsberg and Ryan Tuerck for taking first and third home for the night, and also to Vaughn’s Falken Tire teammate Darren McNamara for taking second place.
Next month, Formula Drift slides into Wall Speedway in New Jersey, Vaughn plans to come out rocking in hopes of a podium finish. For more information, head to VaughnGittin.com.
