Posted on February 6, 2010 by deadpirate

Conrad Grunewald drove down from northern california to Lake forest to throw his new 2010 camaro onto the dyno at Dynamic Autosport.

After battling some gremlins in the motor, the car finally laid down some pulls on the dyno

R.I.P. Atsushi Kuroi

Posted on February 2, 2010 by deadpirate

12:47PM PST. i was filming some friends of mine at a skatepark while they are riding around doing random tricks on their bikes when my cell phone vibrates in my pocket.

From:Twitter
rhoadracing: RIP ATSUSHI KUROI died in a motorcycle accident:(

My first reaction. WTF?!?!?! LIES!!! no way could Kuroi die. this has to be a rumor

an hour later i receive another text from my friend Jason in Palmdale, RIP Atsushi Kuroi.

I hop onto facebook. RIP Kuroi everywhere. I was blown away. How? Why? WTF?!?! The ambassador to drifting. the guy who just dropped the SICKEST angle in the history of drifting. just…GONE?!?!

This news hit me like a ton of bricks. I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Kuroi at the Red Bull World Drifting event in Long Beach in 2008. Super nice guy, even with the language barrier, we were still able to have a bit of a conversation about Michihiro Takatori and the event.

Im still speechless about the news.

R.I.P. Atsushi Kuroi. your legacy will live on through the hearts of drift fans who got the pleasure of seeing you drive, and those that were inspired by your style and passion of the sport

Thank you to Antonio from Motormavens for allowing me to borrow his photos for this post

Justin Pawlak off Bergenholtz?!

Posted on January 19, 2010 by deadpirate

It appears so.

According to Justins blog http://blog.jtpdrift.com/ “Unfortunately after negotiations with Bergenholtz Racing it looks as though there is not going to be another amazing year for Justin Pawlak and the Mazda Rx8. Bergenholtz Racing and JTP have decided to part their ways for this upcoming 2010 season. Although JTP was looking forward to some big changes to the car for 2010, it does not seem as though they will be able to make a run for the championship as they had hoped.”
Justin states that he will be back in his Mazda RX-7 and is also currently looking for new sponsors for the 2010 Formula D season

Mike Essa 2009 Formula D Re-Cap [video]

Posted on December 17, 2009 by deadpirate

Mike Essa laid it down in his rookie year! Showing he could keep up with the big dogs Mike was chasing them all over the track, pushing and pushing for a victory. And now with a new sponsor and a new car, Mike could be a force to be reckoned with in 2010. I cannot wait to see his new BMW in 2010. Its going to be a BEAST!!!!!!!!!

Calvin Wan off Team Falken

Posted on November 13, 2009 by deadpirate

In an interesting turn of events. It appears that Calvin Wan is no longer with Team Falken, and from reading his blog, its sounds like he will be running his own drift program in 2010.

“7 years is a long time for anything. Amazingly, that’s how long I’ve been with the Falken Tire Drift Team. Through that time, Falken and I have shared many ups and downs. We started as a makeshift first entry into establishing drifting as a legitimate, viable, and, most of all, exciting N. American motorsport.

We weren’t sure what we had at the time – how could anyone know – but we knew we were pursuing our passion and felt strongly that we were right at the doorstep of something special. I’m a firm believer that you really can’t go wrong chasing after what you love. Make that a priority and everything else falls into place.

What followed the dedication and teamwork was indeed success. Falken Tire was right there with me, from pioneering the sport at new venues to podium finishes, the formula worked well and has been just as enthralling as drifting through corners at full throttle.

The low points make the highlights even more remarkable and forces you to truly appreciate having that dialed-in car, professional crew and being surrounded with all the little complementary pieces that come together at the right time.

So now as I reflect back on all the great highs and even the lows over the course of seven years, I’d like to thank all the incredible people that have been a part of the collection of snapshots permanently imprinted in my head.

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be shifting to the next challenge in my drifting career, pursuing my own program. Thank you to the fine folks at Falken Tire. I wish them continued success. Most importantly, I’d like to thank all my supporters – past, present and future. I’m looking forward to the next phase of my career and to the road ahead. I hope you’ll join me.

Sincerely,

Calvin Wan

We wish you the best of luck in 2010 Calvin!
