Welcome back! This is my driver’s insight from round 2 of the British Drift Championship at Knockhill race circuit – Scotland, UK
With over 1000 miles round trip to Knockhill, it’s our longest journey on our drifting calendar. The journey began early on Thursday morning with a daunting 14 hour drive, and what better way can you do it ? With the music blaring, ice cold drinks and your team mates in convoy, the miles soon rolled on by.
The team arrived in a sunny Knockhill with plenty of time to get set up and walk the track in the evening. Standing at the bottom of “the hill” looking up I really thought I may struggle quite a lot with having the correct line and confidence!
With a 1000 mile trip for all three Boss Motorsport driver’s the weekend began with the team having high hopes of a good result despite the thought of the imposing Knockhill’s infamous blind entry on the Hill. The three cars were all prepared with various modifications to improve performance and address some of the issues highlighted from round 1 at Lydden Hill.
With this being my first ever British Drift Championship round I was extremely nervous going into the event but also very excited to be in the paddock with my team mates at Boss Motorsport. My expectations were not high for the first round but I was determined to put on a good show and push the Rocket Bunny R33 Skyline to its max. The main aim for Lydden Hill was to shakedown the car and find what grip levels it had in varying conditions as the weather forecast for the weekend looked changeable.
Lydden Hill Round 1 saw me return to the British Drift Championship after racing at grassroots level with my rebuilt 1JZ powered Chaser. With very little shakedown time for the car before the event and on untested tyres, the weekend began with the practice session being used to sort any problems with the car and test the grip level on a very damp track.
