Team FALKEN Earns Third at Long Beach 2018 Formula D Opener
Team FALKEN Earns Third at Long Beach 2018 Formula D Opener
LONG BEACH, CA – Team Falken celebrated with a third place podium finish for Piotr Wiecek Saturday night at the 2018 Black Magic Formula Drift season opener held on the streets of Long Beach. Wiecek, who qualified first, had a strong car all night, but succumbed to eventual race winner Fredric Aasbo. Formula D Defending Champion and Falken Tires teammate James Deane qualified second and ultimately finished fourth during an extremely competitive night. Five Team Falken drivers finished in the Top 10 for the evening and in the current standings after one round.
Formula Drift proved that its draw as a spectator sport continues to grow as Saturday night saw the largest attendance ever recorded at FD Long Beach. The fans were treated to the debut of Team Falken veteran Justin Pawlak’s 2018 Ford Mustang in new Falken livery, as well as teammate Matt Field’s Chevrolet C6 Corvette also dressed in the brand’s familiar teal and blue colors.
“It was an important event for Falken Tires,” stated Jonathon Bradford, Falken’s Motorsports and Events Manager. “We had a great crowd and they were able to connect with our drivers during the autograph session, which is such a good experience for everyone. We’ve got a very strong team and though our competition has ‘upped’ its game, we’re happy with a podium from our home track and a celebration for Piotr. We’ll move forward in great shape for Orlando.”

Jake DRIFTSQUID Jones Blog – 2017 Zhuhai Drifting Champion
China, Zhuhai International Circuit Drift competition
I’ve just got back from China and we brought home the 2017 Championship. Its a pretty surreal feeling and after 3 years competing over in China we finally managed to bring home the Championship. It wasn’t without drama and plenty of ups and downs though. Mechanical dramas, mis communication with the Chinese mechanics, crazy weather including Typhoons. you name it and we pretty well had to endure it. What a crazy year its been to say the least.
I tried a new avenue of sharing the adventure with all my fans and followers, I took my GoPros and captured as much footage as I could on and off the track. Editing every night and trying to upload the footage before I hoped back in the car each day. It was another challenge I put on myself but the enjoyment I get from sharing it with everyone is priceless. Here is the Link to my Video series from the recent Championship Winning trip. >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FreGgNe7Zc&index=1&list=PLQWls4DETwzNIFbEF-MmO3PD_6nHvuXDu&t=25s Continue reading

May 25, 2017 (Signal Hill, Calif.) – Kyle Mohan returns from his favorite track — Road Atlanta — with a positive result, beating then points leader Fredric Aasbo to advance on to the Top 16 bracket in the Built 2 Apex / Mazdatrix / KMR MX-5.

Mohan Perseveres and Advances to Top16 in FormulaD Orlando
May 08, 2017 (Signal Hill, Calif.) – With high hopes based on last year’s performance, the Kyle Mohan Racing team unpacked the Built 2 Apex / Mazdatrix / KMR MX-5 from the trailer in Orlando, Florida ready to kick off the east coast leg of the Formula Drift Pro Championship series. This event, however, provided its fair share of challenges for the KMR Team who discovered unforeseen gremlins in the MX5 during Thursday’s practice, launching a trip to local Mazda race shop Kilo Racing and a very late night for the KMR team. Fortunately, the team was able to repair the issues and put the vehicle on track Friday to qualify for the big show on Saturday. Fans packed the Orlando Speedworld stadium for Saturday’s competition and cheered for Mohan who campaigns the only Mazda rotary powered platform in the series. Mohan was paired with Ken Gushi in the top 32 tandem battle. Gushi had a strong lead run, but Mohan was able to maintain good proximity and angle in the chase position. Mohan took the lead position in the second tandem battle and laid down a strong and consistent lead run with a big gap in front of Gushi. The judges unanimously gave the win to Mohan. In the top 16 tandem battle, Mohan fought hard against FD champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. in a close match, but didn’t advance. “Our team overcame many challenges this round with very little sleep, but we were able to persevere and advance through the competition. I’m very proud of our efforts and abilities, and I can’t wait to get back on track for next round in Atlanta!”
Mohan will compete at Road Atlanta for Formula Drift Round 3 on May 12th and 13th. The event will be streamed live on FormulaD.com.
