Wiecek, who qualified first, had a strong car all night, but succumbed to eventual race winner Fredric Aasbo. Formula D Defending Champion and Falken Tires teammate James Deane qualified second and ultimately finished fourth during an extremely competitive night. Five Team Falken drivers finished in the Top 10 for the evening and in the current standings after one round.
Formula Drift proved that its draw as a spectator sport continues to grow as Saturday night saw the largest attendance ever recorded at FD Long Beach. The fans were treated to the debut of Team Falken veteran Justin Pawlak’s 2018 Ford Mustang in new Falken livery, as well as teammate Matt Field’s Chevrolet C6 Corvette also dressed in the brand’s familiar teal and blue colors.
“It was an important event for Falken Tires,” stated Jonathon Bradford, Falken’s Motorsports and Events Manager. “We had a great crowd and they were able to connect with our drivers during the autograph session, which is such a good experience for everyone. We’ve got a very strong team and though our competition has ‘upped’ its game, we’re happy with a podium from our home track and a celebration for Piotr. We’ll move forward in great shape for Orlando.”

ATLANTA, GA – Team Falken continued its winning ways when Falken driver James Deane scored yet another first place finish in Round 3 of the 2017 Formula Drift Championship at Road Atlanta. Deane fought tough battles all evening to take top honors and move into the lead for this year’s Black Magic Pro Driver’s Championship.
Twenty-eight entries qualified for Road Atlanta, with Falken teammates Matt Field in 4th; Justin Pawlak in 9th; Piotr Wiecek in 11th, Deane in 13th; and Daijiro Yoshihara, 23rd. Deane, piloting his Nissan Silvia S15, and running on Falken AZENIS RT615k+ tires, continued moving forward, defeating Dean Kearney in the final. His podium finish continues a record of strong finishes at Road Atlanta, which was the 14th time Formula Drift had visited the legendary racetrack.
“This is an important win for us,” stated Steven Wong, Supervisor, Passenger Car Events. “Falken’s continued success in Formula Drift with our new AZENIS RT615K+ once again proves that this tire is a strong, consistent championship contender.
“Deane has proven to be an excellent representative of Falken, on and off the track,” Wong continued. “His exuberance is just remarkable. You can hear it in his voice every time he steps out of his car.” Continue reading →
LONG BEACH, CA – Team Falken returned to a familiar place Saturday night, April 1st – the winner’s circle – as James Deane carried the tire manufacturer to victory at the Long Beach round, the opening session of the 2017 Black Magic Formula Drift Pro Championship. Deane, a five-time Irish Drift Champion and five-time European Drift champ, qualified 2nd and basically led the field of 30 the entire evening.
Falken Teammate Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis qualified 8th and finished 4th overall, while Falken Rookie Piotr Wiecek, a three-time Polish drift champ, finished 10th.
“This was a triumphant return for our six-car Team Falken operation and for James Deane,” exclaimed a jubilant Steven Wong, Falken’s Supervisor of Motorsports & Events. “I’m so excited for James, who is running full-time in Formula Drift with Falken after competing on a limited schedule nearly seven years ago.”

FORT WORTH, TX – September 10, 2016 – Team Falken driver Matt Field took the top spot on the podium at Texas Motor Speedway in the latest round of the 2016 Formula Drift Championship. Field’s first-ever first-place finish notches back-to-back event wins for Falken, following Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis’ win at Evergeen Speedway in August. This is also Falken’s third consecutive visit to the podium this season.
“We couldn’t be happier for Matt and our Falken team,” said Steve Wong, Supervisor, Motorsports and Events for Falken. “We knew we had the drivers and the tires to get to the top this season. With Matt’s win, and our third straight trip to the podium, we were proven right. The new course configuration made the track fast and challenging for these drivers, but our AZENIS line delivered. We’re confident we’ll see more of these top finishes for our drivers.”
