D1 Grand Prix: Japan’s Top Drifting Series

D1 Worldwide Entertainment Delays U.S. Events to 2011 Season

Posted on August 2, 2010 by Staff

Burbank, CA – 7/28/2010– D1 Worldwide Entertainment, (www.d1gp.com), the official organizers of automotive entertainment’s premier drifting events in the United States announced today the 2010 USA D1 Grand Prix event line-up will be delayed to the 2011 Season.

D1 Corporation, Japan initiated conversations with American organizers last week to discuss the U.S. events and their late season start. It was determined that potentially the quality of the events would be compromised and therefore the D1 brand would be better served by pushing the organization of these events into the to-be-determined 2011 D1 Grand Prix season.

The 2010 D1 Grand Prix on SPEED™ will run as scheduled for its premiere on September 4, 2010 at 6:00PM Eastern Standard Time. The television series will now focus on the eight D1 2010 Grand Prix events emanating from Japan which include multiple North American drifting drivers competing head to head with the greatest drifters in the world. The premiere episode will include U.S. favorites Samuel Hubinette, Mike Pollard and Forrest Wang. Additionally, viewers will find Fox Sport Net running repeats of the10 episodes; dates and times to be announced.

D1 Official Statement Regarding Team Orange…

Posted on August 11, 2009 by George

Dear D1GP USA Fans,

This is D1GP USA’s Official Statement regarding the events that transpired at the Chicago D1 Grand Prix event.

In the case of Driver conduct at the event there were several instances that involved Team Orange. We feel these instances were boiling over from the Anaheim event where Forrest Wang had beaten Tanaka and fought a hard battle against Kumakubo that resulted ultimately in Kumakubo’s victory over Wang. In Chicago, Wang and Tanaka were paired up again with Kumakubo once again waiting in the wings.

I am sure, as anticipated as this battle was for the crowd, it was maybe more anticipated by the drivers. There was a lot of pride on the line. After Wang and Tanaka’s first tandem battle there was a slight advantage given to Wang. The drivers reversed positions and Forrest got a huge lead from the start with Tanaka letting off the gas about 50 feet after the start. Wang realized this mid course and also ceased. VegasDrift.com Interviews Forrest Wang on D1:Round 3…

Posted on August 3, 2009 by George

Our family over at VegasDrift.com got the chance to interview Forrest Wang on some of the issues we have heard that took place over the weekend at round 3 of D1GP USA.  Here’s some of the scoop.  Read on…

From VegasDrift.com
We caught up with Forrest Wang while he was stuck at Chicago O’Hare Airport trying to get back to Las Vegas.

VegasDrift:  Congratulations on your 2nd place finish at D1 Chicago!
Forrest Wang:  Thanks Man.

VD:  What day did you arrive in Chicago?
FW:  We arrived on Thursday at around 3pm, and then went to the track for testing. There was no practice and I had a bit of concern about the motor from Vegas at it spiked past 300 degrees…but it held up strong. The J drivers were like clockwork on the Thursday practice on every clip with super angle. We stayed at the Essex in less than a mile from the track.  I did receive the CP pistons from the VegasProAm win for the next build.

VD:  We heard that you ran in to some trouble on Friday, care to elaborate on that?
FW:  Yeah…I broke the tranny 5 runs in on the Friday practice – Simba found and picked up a KA trans from CM works, “a shop 10 min from Solider Field.” He did all the foot work. I would really like to thank Simba. Usually when I pop a tranny I have to do all the work, but with the help from Derrick from Drift Speed and my homie CJ, we were able to get the tranny in less than 60 min. Derrick was meticulous and very thorough in cleaning all of the replacement parts before they were installed.
