If you haven’t heard by now, Mad Mike Whiddett took the win at Formula Drift Japan round 2 this weekend with some truly epic drives in his prototype Red Bull RX-7. Say a prayer for his Nitto tires and check out each of the crazy Kiwi’s runs, from Top 32 to Finals, in this awesome supercut.

Formula Drift Round 2: Advance Auto Parts – Road to the Championship
In this round Recap – MadMike and team head back to Road Atlanta for the 2nd year in his Red Bull, Nitto Tire, Mazda MX5 – RADBUL where the Pro Championship point standings were shaken up, with with the Top 3 points leaders knocked out of competition in the top 32.
Experience proved to be a factor with the Top 3 finishers which included three past champions, who have competed at every Formula Drift event at Road Atlanta since the beginning 13 years ago.
This round last season was the first ever event for the MX5 and Mikes 2nd time at the venue where he finished Atlanta in a respectable 13th. This year the team set out to better that result. Confident heading into qualifying Mike laid down two top runs qualifying him for the top 32 main competition and placing him in the 11th spot of the battle tree format. Continue reading →
The thing about racing is that sometimes things don’t go as planned. Fredric Aasbo and the Papadakis Racing team goes through another blown engine and races against time to get back on the grid while Ken Gushi faces a former Formula DRIFT champion early on in the rounds. Ryan Tuerck’s car spits flames, in an unfortunate manner, as he takes his last run.
