Round 4 of the British Drift Championship once more heads back to the world renown Lydden Hill race circuit in Kent. This time things would be shaken up for the return to the hill, as the drivers would face a whole new challenge with the circuit now running in reverse. This is the first time this has ever happened at Lydden Hill and upon arrival the team spotted a few more walls than normal.
The Boss Motorsport drivers were very keen to walk the track on Friday night. Throughout our track walk the drivers were discussing what was the best way to attack the new course in the morning practice. None the less they were very eager to get out there and kill some tyres.
Saturday morning practice kicked off at 9am and first out on track were the Semi-pro for there first 45min practice session. The new track layout was proving to be quite challenging for Martin Wonnacott but with a few adjustments he was soon getting to grips with the new course.
Next out on track was Ollie Elmore for his Pro practice and things were going well at first until his Skyline developed a low oil pressure fault. The tech guys in team worked hard to rectify the fault but nothing could be done at the track and Ollie had to retire from the event.
Steve Moore was up next for the Super pro practice. The new track layout was proving a challenge for his SR20 powered S14. However with a few adjustments to the tyre pressures and suspension geometry, Steve was now back on pace with the rest of the field and near the end of the session he was pushing hard with some door on door twining.
For qualifying Martin was showing good lines with a lot angle but he narrowly missed out on taking part in the top 16 by qualifying in 17th place. It was now down to Steve to show the judges what he was made of. Straight away he was attacking hard pushing the SR20 to its limits and it paid off by bagging a spot in the top 16.
Game day saw Steve up against Spanish champion Louis lopez in his V8 powered S14 in the top 16 battles. Once again the Great British weather was playing its part, heavy down pours and sunshine were giving some drivers dry battles and others wet ones. When Steve headed out for his battle the track was almost dry except for a small trickle of water running down the track near clip 3. Steve was chasing first, he put in a good chase run keeping good proximity with Louis throughout the entire course. With a fairly even score it was all to play for in the final run. On the second run Steve was pushing hard to create a gap but on the run up to clip 3 throwing large angle Steve hit the running water and over rotated to a half spin, with that small error Louis Lopez moved onto the great 8.
Another round of the British Drift championship came to a close with some truly epic battles. A reasonable weekend for Boss Motorsport gaining valuable team championship points. Now back to Boss HQ to get Steve’s car ready for Round 5 at Trax on Septemeber 7th. The whole team will then be competing in the final at Anglesey Race circuit on September the 20th but not before some repairs to Ollie’s Skyline.
Once again we would like to thank all our sponsors and fans for their continued support and all the hard work of our media team at Everythingdrift.com, RB Photography and GFB Media.
