DriftCup kicked off the year in style when it headed to the Adrian Flux Arena in Norfolk for Round 1 of the 2015 Season.
The changes to the British Drift Championship structure have had a huge effect on DriftCup, everyone wanting to get into the BDC has to compete in DriftCup, with the top 4 from each event getting an opportunity to qualify at the next BDC round.
This has raised the bar in terms of cars and drivers as everyone is pushing hard to get one of the top 4 spots.
The track layout promoted close battles with the majority of the clips located around the outside of the circuit.
Running wide would be costly as the track abrupty ended and becoming the shale of the speedway track.
During the morning each of the drivers got a chance to practice both leading and chasing around the track before having two qualifying runs.
The top qualifier was Jaime Owen with a score of 82.3 after consistently putting in great runs.
During the top 32 battles Jamie Owen would go on to defeat Frazer Jamieson, Peter Hayden & Jason Clark to earn his place in the top 4.
As the light faded the top 4 emerged after many close battles, the drivers joining Jamie in the top 4 were David Cooper, Richard Dolby-Smith & Matthew Walker. Matthew Walker would defeat David Cooper to earn his place in the final with Jamie Owen joining him after defeating Richard Dolby-Smith.
The battle for third place would be close, David Cooper had been chasing hard all day and this was no different, pushing Richard hard he would manage to get a place on the podium.
The final between Jamie Owen and Matthew Walker was a brilliant display of drifting, Jamie running a good consitent line and getting close on his chase run would be enough to secure the win.
After the champagne was sprayed we got a chance to sit back and reflect on what a great start to the DriftCup season it has been.
We cant wait for the rest of the season, if you want to attend a round then check out http://www.driftcup.co.uk/ for more infomation, until then enjoy the rest of the photos.
