We are following a few drivers throughout the 2016 season within Driftcup, the feeder series for the British Drift Championship. Frazer is one of the second year drivers in Driftcup after having mechanical issues for alot of the 2015 season.
In his words this is how he got on at Round 1, Rockingham.
On the build up to Round 1 I was keen to get the and get started, it had been a few months since the end of the previous season and I was eager to get out there in some battles.
The car had been fixed over the offseason and I had been out at Three Sisters a few weeks ago for some testing, the car was feeling good.
We waited for the fog to clear before the practice session started, once I was out on track the car was running well so I didnt really stop.
By the end of the session I had completed many laps of the track nailing some great lines around the tight track although it felt like the suspension was needing some work.
In qualifying I spun on my first run due to my suspension issues getting worse. I didnt let that distract me as I went into the second run, it wasnt the greatest run but a safe one, putting me in 31st place and into the battles.
My first battle was against second place qualifier, Mark Illand. We both had good lead and chase runs but I was judged to have better runs, putting me through to the Top 16.
In the Top 16 I was up against Ian Lonsdale in the Volvo powered E36, I was stoked about going against Ian as we have had some great days on track together in the past. I started out in the chase position and I followed closely before spinning as the track tightened between clips 2 & 3. I knew I had my work cut out as it would have been a 10-0 advantage to Ian at this point.
On my lead run I concentrated on running the perfect qaulifying line as Ian chased, I looked in my mirror at clip 3 to see how close he was, I was ecstatic that he had also spun giving us a One More Time.
During the One More Time I was judged to have had a better lead run although we both maintained good proximity on our chase runs, it was enough to put me through to the Top 8.
The next battle was against Mark Webb, this was great as I used to watch videos of him ripping up the skate parks on his BMX, getting to battle him was something else. I managed a good chase run but he managed to get even closer on his chase run.
I was happy even though I was knocked out as I felt it was a close battle and it was great to make it this far after last year. I would like to thank The E36 Centre for supporting me this season and my team / pitcrew for all of their help.
