Aidan Clarence has been impressing everyone with his talented driving since he appeared in Driftcup last year. This year we are going to be bringing you updates on his progress within the championship.
The practice session in the morning was going well, a couple of runs into the session and I was managing to get the car to run the line around the track without issue.
I then set about chasing a few of my competitors to get used to chasing people around this track, it was all going well as I set off for another run.
This time the gearbox let go as I transitioned onto clip 3, this caused the car to grip up and head straight through a tyre bail.
The damage isn’t too bad and can be repaired but it meant that I would be without a car for the rest of the day.
Luckily Eldin from EMP Performance came through for me, giving up his own seat time on the Matsuri tracks to lend me his Toyota Soarer in time for qualifying.
I had never driven the car before but I had to go straight into my first qualifying run. I put in a safe run trying to learn the car and set a score, unfortunately this run wasn’t going to be good enough so the pressure was on for my second attempt.
This time I went harder throughout the run, it was going well until the last corner where I transitioned, hit the lock stops and spun out.
I was lucky enough to be able to use Eldin’s car when my own broke so I can’t thank him enough for it!
I’ll have my own car repaired and ready for Round 2 at Three Sisters Race Circuit in a couple of weeks. Thank you to everyone that helped and supported me at Round 1.
