Throwback Thursday – 2006 Clipping Point: Tyler McQuarrie

Posted on April 7, 2011 by Staff
The 2011 Formula Drift Session begins now and we wanted to take a look back this week at last years 8th place driver. Taking 3rd place overall in 2009 and been in all makes and models of cars from Toyota to Honda to a Porsche and now Nissan .  We look to see Tyler haveing a good year comin back in his Falken 350z for this session.  Heres a 2006 interview we did with Tyler for Honda Tunning Magazine(One of the few magazines still in business thank god).
Honda Tuning: How did you get into the RS*R car? Did they approach you?
Tyler McQuarrie:I was talking to them a little bit last year around mid-season; they kind of knew that I was looking to get into a new car. Around halfway through the season, I had made the decision that I wanted to look into other opportunites beyond the Jasper Supra, and I started talking to Ben from RS*R USA from there. Yokohama was the tire sponsor for the Supra, and I’ve been with them for other racing events for quite a while; they really helped to facilitate the talks since RS*R was also sponsored by Yokohama. At the time, RS*R was just looking to run a second car, and continued to have Alex as their primary driver in the S2000. I think they were hoping to run two S2000s, but when Alex moved on to judging, my spot in the driver’s seat was pretty much a done deal. Continue reading →

Long Beach, Calif. – April 6, 2011 – Formula DRIFT has announced the addition of Ryan Lanteigne to the Formula DRIFT judging panel for the 2011 Pro Championship season.  Lanteigne will take Ernie Fixmer’s position as the third Formula DRIFT judge.

Fixmer has recently taken a position in the aerospace field and will be unavailable to judge the Formula DRIFT domestic events due to time commitments.  He is still very dedicated to the sport ofdrifting and will continue to be part of the community, but looks forward to the new career opportunity.  Hisdeparture creates an opening in the 3-judge panel where Lanteigne will takeover the role of third judge.

“We are happy to see Ernie taking a position in the field he loves and though we are saddened by his departure,Ryan will be a great addition to the Formula DRIFT family,” said Ryan Sage, vice-president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT.  “Not only is Ryan a seasoned driver, he has judging experience and has worked with both Tony (Angelo) and Andy (Yen) which is a great way to start the new relationship.”

Lanteigne brings both the experience as a professional driver and judge for the DriftMania Canadian Championship (DMCC).  Lanteigne has a working experience with both current Formula DRIFT judges Andy Yen and Tony Angelo and they have expressed their approval for Lanteigne to join them on the judging panel for the 2011 Pro Championship season.

“I am truly very excited and honored to be a part of the Formula DRIFT family. We were fortunate to haveFormula DRIFT judges in the Canadian series when I was competing, which introduced us to the rules, scoring and demands of the big leagues early on,” said Ryan Lanteigne, new Formula DRIFT judge.  “After my early retirement, working as a judge with Tony and Andy really opened my eyes to the intricacies of the sport while reinforcing just how important it is to be impartial and objective while in the judging tower. Ilook forward to meeting all of the drivers at Round 1: Streets of Long Beach and to the entire season ahead.”

Lanteigne will make his debut as Formula DRIFT judge on April 8-9, 2011 at Round 1: Streets of Long Beach.

Throwback Thursday – 2006 Clipping Point: Quoc Ly

Posted on March 31, 2011 by Staff
So as we look back to 2006. Where the hell is Quoc Ly in 2011? This will be the first year I dont see him running Fomrula Drift. He’s come a long way and been with DriftSpeed for quite some time now. We we’re hoping to see him at XDC a couple weeks back, but that didn’t happen.  We hope Quoc gets picked back up and if not, can go privateer and we get to see him out there doing what we know he loves to do.  The economy’s been kicking all our asses lately and we hope we all can survive the  Not to mention hat hapened to Jasper Performance while I am thinking about it…Right before the start of the new Formula D season, Everything Drift had the opportunity to catch up with Quoc Ly of Westminster, CA. This is what he had to say:

Everything Drift: How have you prepared to be more competitive in Formula D after competing only as an amateur last season?
Quoc Ly: Well, I started out with my car to do the Qualifier in Houston. You know, my car is a stock KA. Right before I went out to Houston, I got picked up by Gene Jasper of Jasper Performance. The season hasn’t started but they are going to put in an SR in my car. During the meantime while I run my car, they are gonna build another Supra. It will be a little different than Conrad’s, and that’s all I’m going to say. Hopefully, it will be ready before Chicago (Round 3). Continue reading →
