FD-PRO2-RD1-Podium

Long Beach, Calif. – May 7, 2016 – Formula DRIFT PRO 2 entered Road Atlanta for the first round of the PRO 2 championship.  Jeff Jones in the DOC Nissan S14 takes the victory and the lead in the standings.

The inaugural event for PRO 2 at Road Atlanta kicked off the PRO 2 championship season.  The course proved to be challenging and for many of the PRO 2 drivers as it was their first time drifting at Road Atlanta.

The top four qualifiers coincidentally also ended in the Top 4 of the competition.  In the semi-finals, Ryan Litteral in the Ryan Litteral Racing Nissan S14 went head to head with Jeff Jones in one of the best battles of the evening.  Litteral made contact with Jones, which ultimately gave Jones the win placing him in the Finals.  Number one qualifier, Marc Landreville, in the Perry Performance Nissan S14 faced off against Dan Burkett in the RAD Dan Toyota Supra in unique circumstances due to a collision on course with fault given to Burkett.  Landerville was given the win into the Finals, but with his car being unrepairable he was unable to continue in competition giving Jones the victory.

Formula DRIFT 2016 Long Beach: A Wet Season Opener | Driven 2 Drift [Ep. 2]

Formula DRIFT 2016 Long Beach brought new challenges. Tough weather conditions aren’t what make competition more difficult, it’s the inconsistencies in weather patterns that have the most affect—just ask Fredric Aasbo, “I’d much rather it rain all the way and not stop; inconsistencies can really mess things up.” Beyond keeping his competition at bay on slick surfaces, Aasbo has a title to defend, and he’s got a nice target on his back for 2016. But that’s struck a little fear into him, “I don’t want to lose the drive or the hunger [to succeed]…but I’m going to go out there and continue to put on a good show, and drift well.” Formula Drift season has definitely gotten under way for the SR by Toyota team, and to coincide with it, our latest season of Driven2Drift.

Mad Mike Formula Drift Round 1 Long Beach, CA 2016

Posted on April 28, 2016 by George

Kiwi drift driver Mad Mike Whiddett returns for another season of Formula Drift competition.

The Formula Drift series is the premier US drifting series that drivers from all around the world aspire to compete in, since it’s first round in 2004.

Returning to the series after walking away with the Fan Favourite award in 2015, kiwi driver Mad Mike Whiddett and his generation2 RADBUL (Mazda MX5), get ready to let loose on the track. Due to treacherous rain conditions in the usually sunny Long Beach, California, the Formula Drift judges had no choice but to cancel the qualifying round.

“This was such a bummer, as for me coming from New Zealand, we have experience in these conditions” says Mad Mike. “As a team, we love the challenge of adapting to the track and weather, whatever it may bring.”

In this clip, Mad Mike and RADBUL have arrived stateside, ready to race in the first round of the competition.
